ahh too bad, myspace got that chance, what about bandmix? maybe its the politics. There is enough artist here to compete with myspace bands, heck have a show nationwide for all sites to compete with one another. 8)

The top Bandmix artists would kick everybody else's butts in a music contest.

I guess all i would want is the chance, and perhaps we might all feel the same, a shot at the big time, it is like that show called cheers, you want to go where everyone knows your name. But as i pay attention to the media about all these rock stars and movie stars, sometimes they dont seem happy, for a while all the money seems ok, but with that comes leeches and vampires sort of to speak to suck you dry of casssh. maybe a one hit wonder would be cool. get popular, make money, get what you need to set you up for rest of life and enjoy what you can with your love ones. and retire for a while.

I've said the same thing about being a one hit wonder. You must look at success like that and invest wisely. A lot of one hit wonders work regular jobs for the rest of their lives as they live like it will always be that good.

You do have a chance. Go to an audition.

I just watched your Wicked Game, Paul. Wow.

Nice voice you have there. Not a fan of the looping station, but am totally down with the rest of it.

Well thanks captn . Out of curiosity what is it you don't like about the loop station. You do know everything is live right? Nothing was prerecorded.

RATINGS- RATINGS-RATINGS!!!!. They've had people on AGT that weren't worth a sht. It's all about the amusement/entertainment factor and hasselhoff and Sharon and who 3 xxx's out and who makes it and who doesnt drama/ suspense. Just an off-shoot of american idol. I'm sure if these ratings are good we'll see MANY clones of these shows. It's not about REAL musical talent, its about RATINGS to sell commercials. -my .02.

that was cool, going on different instuments, when you make it there, throw a bandmix sign, and lets us all know so we can watch you perform.

I just don't like the loop station, but I thought the performance was very good.

The loop is taking away your need for other musicians. lol

Paul,

It just "looks" good. Major Label deals are designed for them to recoup their investments and hopefully make a profit. They may invest 150K to produce an album, and 90% of those albums fail. You have to have susatining power to make money in this business, with a major label deal. You may not make any money until your 2nd album, and the vast majority of artists DON'T GET A 2nd ALBUM!

Read this and weep:

http://www.negativland.com/albini.html

Scroll Down to the bottom of that page and look at a typical breakdown of a major label's expenses and what they pay out.

It will open your eyes!

Not only that, but I have a friend who held a high level position in one of the majors, and she told me she has seen agents for the majors, buy cocaine and various other entertainments, and CHARGE them as expenses to the new artist. It will be listed as miscellaneous, or some other bogus charge off.

She says this is not an isolated case. That stuff like this is RAMPANT in the music industry on that level.

Hey cap'n leave that Neanda bloke alone. Like he says it is live and all he does is replay basic parts but he can ad-lib too.

I'm probably going to be the person you should dislike sometime in the future in any case. :D

.. Yeah, you have to keep the band going for 100s of shows per tour, without much sleep and a lot of travel. How else ya' gonna pull that off? Also the mob is involved with supplying such substances to the music industry for obvious reasons. (or so I've heard  ).
It's a brutal business.
It's just like any other business. It's out to make money. Not to coddle any artists. If they work you to death, it's just another musician OD'ing on drugs. No skin off their asses. They'll find another replacement for ya. Yeah.
Good article too Craig. Sounds about right. Some bands HAVE made it thru the bullshit though and come out ahead of the game. Maybe they had more expensive lawyers. The good ones'll cost ya plenty!

ZXYZ,

Not the artists brother, it is the LABEL'S people ripping the band off, by charging THEIR OWN DRUGS to the band. The band is not getting these drugs, they are just being CHARGED for them, under bullsh*t expense items that get made up to cover them.

The band is slaving away, and while they are onstage, you are out picking up some coke and then CHARGING it to the band, cause you can slide it in without them noticing.

That's just sleezy bro!

You better share the drugs if you're gonna charge me for them! LOL

(you know I don't do drugs mom... well, not lately)

Yeah, Craig, but the band has to have some too to "keep them going for the show", so somebody's going to have to share a little bit with them. They just don't know that they're paying for all of it. I hear what you're saying. It's pitiful nowadays. Oh and I don't do drugs either. 8) Like I used to..much..
