I get to teach beginning bass at a girls rock school this week.
Its for girls 8-17 to learn an instrument, form a band, and perform a song with their band at the end of the week. Its kinda neat from my perspective to see this whole process condensed into a week.
You guys have a Great Week, I get to play music all week long for a change.

Best of luck John and have fun! I went to see a friend's band play Saturday night and they pulled me up on stage to play some Trower. I did "Too Rolling Stoned" and "Rock Me Baby" and had a blast. P.S. Stay away from them 17 year olds lol.

You dont need any luck John.
You have talent and you have drive. Sprinkle in some teens with an appetite to learn and it's a done deal.
Have fun!!

Hell, they asked you again after you did such a great job last year! You don't need any "good lucks," but you've got 'em anyway. You're gonna have a blast with this once again, JW! Ain't it fun watching the new ones getting started & doing well after you teach 'em? It's like you're reliving your youth through them! I miss teaching these days.

This is so weird.
Why cause I read about folks on here having such a hard time finding bandmates. This school is like the readers digest of bands from my perspective.
Last year I managed a group that basically was the cats meow at the showcase. I thought what the heck the gals will want me back this year. NOT, they didnt even ask me to be their manager! They went for some good looking young guy on the staff this year.
Music is a brutal business, I know this as well as anyone. After having a brutal gig friday night that just wore me out. I mean we play covers and have ahuge well of songs to pull from. We started playing exactly waht the crowd asked for and from my perspective were kicking ass one song after another and the crowd was just dead, dead, dead, dead.................
and now to get rejected at my own game, sux
This goes back to my thread recently about getting older I guess
Anyway I have beginning bass this year, w 4 students cause they cut it back, last year it was 9 students. Im managing a younger group that has some huge potential, Ive just got to get it out of them. Plus I have a 24 yr old med student knockout looking co-manager so what am I whining about.
Tomorrow its time to rock, life is good!!!

Probably the goofiest school on the planet, But we are going to have fun!
We had a woman play at lunch today. Pardon me but a black blues piano female singer. Ive seen her a bunch of times and shes amazing. But during her performance she talked to the young ladys and the one thing she said that hit me was.
Do something that you love to do, something that you would do for free. let yourself go and perform, cause if you are playing music its about performing and projecting yourself. I guess Ive forgotten what that is about. I need to go back to school.

Enjoy the teaching experience JW. Don't let the dead crowd get to you it seems like about every 20th gig or so you are going to run into that situation. I think the biz throws one of those type crowds at us every now and then just to keep us on our toes.

We were invited to play at the local cemetary.
Man was that crowd dead.
Lot of people must have heard about the show though. I asked the promoter why they had such a high fence around the place.
He said it was because people were die'n to get in.
