As many of you know the band I have been playing in for the past 5 years is breaking up. A couple of months ago the Bass player told us he wanted out as of the last gig in July which is tonight. I kind of forsaw it coming and have had an ear to the ground looking for a new band. last week I answered an ad looking for a lead guitar player and I have an audition this Thursday 7/30. I not completely sure about this band they seem a little unorganized. The singer is really good he has a Masters degree from the College Of music at the University I work at. He also plays guitar & keyboards. They are a few years younger than me and want to entertain people from 20 to 60 of which is something I have tried to do over the years. I figure I'll give it a shot. I will let you guy's know how it turns out.

Good luck with it, JH. I like that name, though - "Cruise Control"

Way cool!

Disorganized can be fixed. Tin ears can't. LOL

Have fun working on the new stuff, man! (That's kinda what I'm doing)

Yup been reading on that Haley. Good luck with everything. I don't think the age thing matters frankly unless they are an image band but when you look at most artists these days on TV shows for example the age thing unless its a boy or girl band has no preference. I think it adds to the whole appeal thing to see people of various ages hitting it off.

Very much luck with your project, I'm sure you'll add a depth they never had before.

Craig, that song has been covered by so many of the greats. Nobody did it better than the Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse IMHO. Yeah we had a good run as a band. As the old saying goes all good things must come to an end and it's the same with the wildwood weed.

LOL @ RGmix!

JH,

I agree with you brother. Nothing like the original. Those guys were smooth as hell. Well, they still play, but nothing was the same after they became "The Dregs" and started putting vocals on albums. Trying to be more commercial. But for me, they were best back in the earlier days.

"Free Fall" has the version of "Cruise Control" I grew up on. Really long jam, like 6 or 7 minutes! Plus my mom's former drummer (see the Frisbee Golf thread) had ALOT of Dregs bootlegs, so I heard alot of live versions of it too! :-)

But I'll always respect the Dregs. They were one of the groups I cut my teeth on!

The last gig went real well. We played at a club right on the Seawall in Galveston. called B-Jiggers. I can definately say Cruise Control went out with a bang. The drummer Dwayne was a little emotional. The crowd in this club is always the best crowd to play for, very responsive and dancing right from the start all the way to 1:30. we will see how the audition goes this Thursday.
