RhythmMan, I have worked with the metronomes back and forth... And it is getting rather boring. Are there any Blues or Jazz, or even regular songs you could recommend I could play (Maybe with a metronome) to work on my rhythm with?

I cannot think of any. By the way, do you use a pick or do you only finger pick?

Additionally, when playing arpeggios, like lets say "Nothing Else Matters" (Saying I used a pick that is), do you alternative pick those notes? Because I will be playing songs where you hold down a chord and play an arpeggio, and I do not know whether you should use alternative picking on them or regular.

Peace out and thanks in advance, the apprentice, GuitarAnatomy.

Hey GA,

Check out Oddgrim on here. Reminds me of Slayer, might be up your alley.

Ga,
" . . it is getting rather boring . . ." Sometimes that's the nature of practice. That's why most musicians never practice, they just play, instead, and then they call it practice. There's a difference . . .
anyway - boredom happens, sometimes; it may be time to practice some other aspect of music for a while . . .
.
". . . do you use a pick or do you only finger pick?" Both. Listen to my stuff, you'll hear the difference.
.
Re: arpeggios: I don't do lead, but I do play arpeggios. Sometimes you need to hold the chord to let the individual notes sing for a while, and other times you need to just briefly finger each fret and let go right away, so the note does not ring. . . . depends upon the song . . .
But, if you want to be a shredder, you're talking to the wrong guy . . .
.
Re: alternative picking: Here's the rule on alternative picking:
.
The rule is this: "There is NO rule on alternative picking."
It depends upon the song.
.
GA, listen carefully, this is very important. If you follow the rules, you will be limiting yourself to sounding like everyone else.
.
If you want to follow a rule, try this.
"Play stuff that you like, and see if you can meet your audience half way at the same time."
.
"Half way" can be a real good thing. It will keep you from getting too weird and thus causing no one to want to listen to your music.
.
But, 'weird' can be good, if done right.
.
So, still play for yourself, man, - but, when starting in public, just remember to meet your audience at least half-way..
In other words, don't play metal in a C&W bar, and don't play opera at a punk club . . .
'Half-way' can be a cover that's not quite the same style, or an original that's the same or nearly the same style . . .
Meeting them 'all the way' means doing a cover song that they like just like the original.

JW, Eh, not exactly my style man.

His first song "Sarcastic" reminds me more of DragonForce than anything. The second song ("Untitled") on the other hand does sound more like Slayer.

That stuff is very fast, and I thought Lamb of God could pop a tendon, lol.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

The problem, RhythmMan, about following the rules is, every time I try to stray I am told (By my friend for instance) to "learn the rules and then break them." So yeah, otherwise I would just follow my own pattern, lol.

So it is a pickle for me. I guess you are right, practice may mean boredom, but it means learning a lot. I guess I can endure that horrible click a few million more times.

Yeah, arpeggios are strange, I want to be a shredder yes. But that is fascinating that there is no true rule to alternative picking and stuff. I just want to do whatever will make me a good guitarist, so I am working on everything I can.

Thanks for the advice.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

If you want to find out how good a guitar player you are, then you will eventually need to play in front of people whom you do not know.
.
If that scares you, then you may be afraid of screwing-up.
.
Only one thing will make you afraid of screwing up, and that is lack of sufficent practice.

Lmao! I think you are giving them for free at the moment. I am dirt poor, so, that does not help, lol. Consider it a donation? You are donating lessons.

Hey I've been playing a really long time, you cannot just fan the guitar (that means play really fast) if you are just starting like 2-4 years. You'll get it, just relax and if you're fingers get twisted up put the dam ax down and pick it back up l8r. You'll see you will get better but if you start getting discusted PUT THE GUITAR DOWN!!!!

PrecisionB, thanks man for the suggestion. I know that by now though, lol. I have learned that, but truthfully, it has not stopped my impatience.

But I am getting a lot better, so I am happy. Today I jammed with my friend, and another friend of ours, and my riff was like the main riff to work around, lol. It was cool.

Peace, GuitarAnatomy.
