On a couple of notes as regards possessions you once owned I completely hear you. One was a car that everyone told me was a heap of junk yet after buying it from me as scrap an Old Lady was driving it!

Must have hurt that and there is some film making attitude with that story too.

Long title.

Cat,
Looks like were a bit off topic, however, I couldn't resist a response to the subject of the beauty of the clarinet.

I tootle a bit on my 'ol Leblanc, but I try not to let anyone hear it!

However, I do have a favored piece of clarinet music that I am quite fond of listening to.
It;s Paul Reade's Mists which is a movement in The Victorian Garden Suite. It stars at 4:00 in this performance.
Check it out.

So sad when real talent is acclaimed only by classroom lights.

Loved this Howlin.

Chippy,
glad you enjoyed the Paul Reade piece.

My understanding is that it was composed and used specifically as the theme to the BBC TV show The Victorian Kitchen Garden. Perhaps you may recall it from your days back in "Merry 'Ol England"
anyways, I became aware of it from a compilation CD that I acquired years back. It truly does remain my favorite piece of clarinet music,(except, perhaps Benny Goodman's "Swing Swing Swing")

Lennon and McCartney notwithstanding, British composers often go unnoticed on this side of the pond, but I regard Holst, Vaughn Williams, Elgar, and more recently Reade as second to none.

Don't know whats up with Class Cat, but mayby she really don't like clarinets.

back on topic

Did ya'll know that when the old dead pervert Papa John was playin' with Denny, Micheal and Cass, the had a hit record covering a Lennon -McCartney tune?

Ahh not fair, I was told I was off topic, the topic is grewsome, not the current but the latter, sorry guys, i did not mean to scamper so loudly, I beg your forgiveness, being a girl I naturally steered away from the incest thing, it's disgusting, so I rambled and then got caught and scampered. LOL

My thoughts are the little girl is not of the Mamas and Pappas, from where I come from, and I had the album of them all in the bath tub and Monday Monday and California Dreaming were it! And I was only 4 years old. She should of spared the rest of the world and left the fond memories alone, and dealt with a shrink, there is underlying anger there or she wouldn't of announced it on Oprah. Too little Too late. :?

Class Cat wrote:Ahh the dreaded foot, yes well i kind of set you up for that did I not?? I get a kick out of doing that. There aren't many people that would assume I am a bass, not base, player. Anyway, the bass is a lonely sideman job, I prefer the back in the shadow approach. Mostly do to assumptions. Get them out of the way.
The bass is NOT a lonely sideman job when you're THE lead singer also (like me).

Hey, HJ, ever heard "Big Bad Bill (is sweet William now) off of Van Halen's Diver Down album? It's my understanding that Eddie and Alex's dad played the clarinet on that song.

Back to topic. If she "forgave" him on his deathbed, why drag his name through the mud now that he's gone and can't defend himself?

Sadly no Howlin.
1987 (after looking of course) Put me in work with long hours. (Man I miss that!). Anyway out at nights was a large feature, or playing of course.

I did find this.

Is that one and the same?
Thanks for posting this again. :D

(No worries Class Cat ~ just wondered was all).

Cheers.

Clarinet...Find Supertramp's "Crime of the Century" album, one song has a great clarinet part, one of my favorites. I've been trying to remember the song name but can't, first vocal line is

Rudy's on a train to nowhere, halfway down the line...

great song, I need to pull out the CD and listen to it, been a while...they use clarinet in a few other songs, but that one stands out. Used to also like listening to Pete Fountain when I was a kid. Nothing like his New Orleans jazz clarinet...

EDIT:

Oops, wrong song. Found it on youtube, Rudy id the name, clarinet part but not the one I was thinking of.

Might have been "Hide in Your Shell", I don't remember now...hell, just listen to the whole album, it's great, couple of good clarinet and sax parts too.

Feel sorry for the "father"?

"father"???

Does this guy deserve that title?

Where is your sense of human decency?

There should be no doubt that this happened. And whether the first one was rape or they were all "consensual" it is an abuse of relationship. A parental relationship can be powerful, whether for good or for ill. The parent is the child's first and longest example of an authority figure in their life. Hence, a parent is an ultimate guide on what we see as right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable, in our earliest formative years, and often even into our adulthood. How many ADULTS are affected throughout their lives by seeking parental approval or respect for themselves? Psychologists have a field day with parent issues, and for good reason. These are people who have almost absolute power over your life. That is a powerful position to operate from.

Someone who abuses that power, is not fit for life, let alone deserving of protection for some musical legacy.

This is not a play for money, or an act of vengeance.

Her sister Chynna was on a talk show recently and confirmed that she was told about this by her sister, something like 12 years ago. If it was about money for a book, why not write the book 12 years ago? If it was about vengeance, then why not write the book BEFORE the "dad" passed away?

The scenario that makes sense, is that because into her adulthood, it became consensual, and because of her decades of drug abuse, she simply couldn't come to terms with it all. Where do you place something like this?

Apparently, she has been off drugs for a while now, and she is almost 50 years old now.

50 years old.

She is reclaiming what is left of her life.

She didn't spill the beans on his sorry ass when he died 8 years ago, did she?

But she is almost 50 years old now.

Does she CONTINUE to be victimized by keeping this nasty secret for the REST OF HER LIFE?

Does he deserve for her to die in misery, keeping his secret to her death bed?

This is cathartic for her. It is healing.

She wants to be free from it, and not to be a prisoner to it, for the rest of her life.

She deserves that.

Her "father" abused a position of power, started her on drugs, and used that, and a claim of "love" as his excuse to abuse her for decades.

She kept the worst of it inside, alone, for decades.

Maybe it would be easy to blame a delinquent kid as a f*ck up, who rebelled against his parents and family, and went wrong. Her story is not so easy. She FOLLOWED her parents. She DID what was expected of her. She followed the family plan.

Now, when she is nearly 50 and wants to break free from it, some here would mock her for seeking that freedom. They would laugh at her abuses, both physical and psychological, at the hands of her own "father". They would attack the victim, for tarnishing an IMAGE of a musician they want to protect. F*ck a human being's life. Let's protect a hippie's image for posterity.

Shame on you.
