Keep Pushin, if you keep on it can only get better.

My daughter is an aspiring pianist, singer songwriter. She recently has hit a new stage in her developement that has shocked me. She is 12, but in another year or two I could see she and I really collaborating on some things. So keep moving forward.

It must be great being musical at that age. I certainly wasn't at twice your daughter's age. But yep, I'm keeping on...

Look. moo. I'm not really a monster, but after looking at your profile when you 1st posted this thread, & checking it out again when you bumped it, I find that you haven't made it any better.

When you bumped it, you haven't mentioned anything about how your progress is coming along, or if you're practicing or being taught or made ANY progress at all, in spite of your wish to improve "quick."

Here we are, 3 month later. I suppose I should have asked - HAVE you made progress? HAVE you taken lessons or gotten a book to help you learn? Have you started to play with other ppl to improve & learn? Are you still so quick to deny any music form that could help you improve your playing?

Let's start with your profile for a moment, if I may, so I don't hafta call you names & stuff in the future -

Most contacts that I've heard of have happened through the "browse" functions here in BM, & NOT in the forums. The forums are for discourse on music & equipment, for bragging rights, & for, well, discussions amongst new friends. This is not a "pick-up" site like a singles bar for bands.

Take it from the top. You don't list what kind of instrument you play. That makes it a bit difficult for others to know you, or what you want to do, don't you think?

You claim to be "very committed" in your profile, but to what? We still don't know what or even IF you play anything.

You're seeking a singer, rhythm guitarist, bass, drums & keys...this leads me to think that perhaps you fancy yourself a lead guitarist, but I have no way of knowing that for sure. Do you play the bowed saw or a lead zyther?

Your style is simply "Classic rock, Heavy Metal, & other." WTF?

"Classic rock covers everything from "southern rock," like Skynrd & 38 Special, to Eagles, to Pink Floyd & Zep & other blues-based bands, to psychedelica & glam, to other forms as far reaching as you wanna make it. Where do you fall in all of this?

"Heavy Metal" is just as loose a term, & tells us nothing about what you're into.

Ditto for "other."

There is no mention of your musical influences, nor your equipment, nor your experience level.

Have you ever set foot on a stage? I can't tell.

Do you have an instrument? I dunno.

Have you ever HEARD music before? Duh...for all I know you're deaf, you have no instruments, & you are a quadroplegic who dreams of being the next SRV.

THAT's from your profile.

Then you came in here with a laundry list of stuff you want to play, but claim that you can't...

Dude - it looks pretty lackluster & dumb to me. I'm sorry, but what else can I say?

If you want to find ppl to play with, you really need to fix ALL of the above.

Start with listing your present abilities & experience, & BE HONEST about it!

Tell us what you have, what you can do, how you're improving & what interests you.

And when you wander away fpr 3 months & return, show us that you've accomplished something to prove that you ARE "very committed," or else you're just a talker & not a doer...a "wanker," if you will...

In the meantime, don't sit on your ass & wait for ppl to magically appear to you through the wonder of the www. Get out there & talk to musicians. Go where the music is played & meet up with ppl. Go to open mics if they're available in your area & watch & listen before you try to join in, if you're that new at this. Go to music stores & meet teachers who might be able to team you up with ppl at your playing level, or teach you, even. Get some books & vids to learn songs & techniques from them.

Make progress. Show that you're committed, that you're for real, or someone like me will prolly slam you for being less than what you claim to be...

Intolerant of most cliched metal nonsense and overhyped sh*t like Zep and Beatles though I listened to plenty of that. But the main bands are in the title. You're either with or against them and me.
Sorry I got in this thread a little late. I went back and looked at your original post and read (quickly) all the give and take after the first post. Your band idea is exactly what? Covering only the bands listed in your subject line? OR creating original music like the bands in your subject line? OR a combination of covers and originals? I STILL have no idea what your idea of a band is? Whether or not you can play well enough is irrelevant to me. What is most important is to CLARIFY YOUR VISION and start practicing to reach that vision. Along the way of learning your instrument you may find that your initial vision doesn't match your developing abilities. You might also find you LIKE PLAYING OTHER ARTISTS MORE and your tastes might radically change as you become more proficient. Is your IDEA OF A BAND written in stone? If you happen to start getting good at your craft and begin the process of finding other musicians to play with, are you going to become FLEXIBLE enough to accomodate different tastes in music? If you get together with people much more advanced than you are you going to utilize their abilities and TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DIFFERENT STRENGTHS THEY BRING TO YOUR PROJECT? First and foremost in forming a band is making sure EVERY band member is happy with the majority of your repertoire. That means EVERY band member gets to choose material. That means EVERY band member gets the opportunity to contribute original ideas to the band. Your initial post sounds to me like you might not be flexible enough to get into a working band. I've done this band thing for almost thirty years. There's nothing worse than playing with somebody who's unhappy with what they are doing. Everybody in a band needs attention and recognition. Sure you probably need to improve as a musician, sure it's HARD to find the right band members. At various times I've gone years without being in a gigging band, at other times I gig all the time. Have patience, CLARIFY YOUR VISION, Be FLEXIBLE, and be open-minded, and DON'T GIVE UP. Good things happen to those who work hard on their goals...

Thanks Bob, there was a lot of good advice there, which I'm going to take note of. I had been practising more, but hadn't considered some of the things you mentioned there.

Philbymon, I'm going to incorporate those changes you suggested.

I see you've made some good changes in your profile, moo. It's good to see some progress. I'd still like to hear it on your profile, though.

Have you had any success in meeting ppl at open mics or any of the other suggestions ppl have given?

We do so love the success stories in here.

Keep at it, & best of luck.
