Jonny,
Yeah, I'd never done it w/a c7 before, didn't want to say anything.
Thought maybe I had just missed something. :)
.
I use to play the open C6, but someyimes I'd bar it, too.

Belle - way to go.
:)
.
So, pick up your guitar, and play some of those 7ths that you used to play, to celebrate!
.
H m m m - maybe your mood calls for something other than a 7th?
:)

Anyone got any comments about the original post?
.
6ths, 7ths, 9ths . . .
.
Anyone have any feelings on songs that use a lot of 9ths, or 7ths?
.
Hey, if you want to hear some GREAT blues: RUN, don't walk, - to the video store, and rent "The Blues Brother 2000."
If you saw it before - well, it's time to go see it AGAIN!
I saw it for the 3rd time, last night - and, man, I could NOT watch this movie without my guitar in my hands. :)
:)
Of course - you're gonna need to know some 7ths, if you wanta play along . . . :)
:)

RocknMike,
Yeah, that's what I used to think, too. :)
.
But, when I advertised for musicians who could play 6ths, 7ths & 9ths, someone told me that I was asking for a lot. I was surprised.
.
That's why I started this thread - I thought most musicians knew these basic chords, but - evidently not, huh?
.
I was trying to get a feel for what percentage of musicians knew these rudimentary chords.
I still don't have my answere.
Take a look at the post statistics next to this thread. Notice how many people responded, vs. how many people have read this posting.
.
Maybe it's not good science, but I'm guessing that most people who answered - are familiar with these chords, while most people who did not reply are not familiar.
.
Anyone got any feelings on this?

You like "D9" & "99"
You should do a song where you play a "D" note in the song exactly 99 times. :) But it would probably take you a month just to figure it out!
:)

Anybody else?
Do you use or know 6ths, 7th's or 9ths?
Just click "Post Reply," below - it's easy . . . .

Are we talking lead guitar work or just chords? I've read most of this post and nobody has mentioned 3rds so far. 3rds and 6ths are extremely essential to lead playing in my opinion.

so true Gabriel_0.....they are important to lead work. Most of those posts were probably from thoses who mainly use cords and not alot of lead work. t

Hey, guys,
Yeah, I was origionally referring to chords. What happened was I put up a post looking for musicians, and I requested that they at least know how to play 6ths, 7ths, & 9ths.
That's like in, for example, a C6th, C7th, & C9th.
Someone told me I was asking for a lot. Oh, I was? Hmmm . . . .
.
So I started this post, to see 'what's - what,' out there in musicland. :)
.
The people who've replied have said, (more or less), "Of course I know those chords."
( - and, that' what I was hoping to hear, thank you all. :) )
.
But - look at the statistics next to the post - look at all the people who've read this post who didn't reply . . .
. . .
I was talking chords, but the discussion can go anyway it wants. :)
Hey, ever play any 12ths? :)

The topic seems a little strange to me. It's like asking musicians (who I assume have some level of mastery of their craft) if they ever use a D#. I mean, of course we do. When the piece we are playing or the composition we are creating calls for it, right? Logic dictates that we would use whatever notes, chords or rhythm that is necessary.

My first reaction to the topic was that it sounded a bit condescending. But again, that's just one man's opinion.
