i wasn't sure about putting up material that weren't full attempts, lol, but the feedback i've read has been awsome, especially the fact that its from a number of different types of musicians.the songs were my first attempts at recording so take to mind i was more intrested in focusing on how to record without expensive equipment, than putting down a serious song. The vocals were pretty bad, being "dummy lyrics"lol and the guitar was to close to the mic.Im just glad learning is limitless...well up until your pushin 90 i guess, trust me all points are dooley noted

Being on dial up it'll be an hour or so before I can listen to anything, it takes ages, but I can say a 10 watt amp should do well for recording. Especially if you can plug it into something other than aqn 8" speaker, but the 8 will do if that's what it has, and I'm betting it's an 8 incher.

I have a Fender Champ, 6 watt tube amp 30 years old that sounds great, I've even used it at gigs before. 8" speaker out of a Gorilla amp, crank it to 10 and it's a great cranked tube amp sound at low enough volume you won't have the cops banging on the door in 5 minutes. I also made up a speaker cable for it so I can plug it into a 2x12 Kustom cabinet (old '67 rolled and pleated job) and it sounds like a bigger amp without the really loud volume. Have to rebuild my 1x12 cabinet, it's 20 years old and falling apart but it sounds good through that one too.

And yes, a mixer might help. I'm using a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder, bypassing the tape, to record into my computer and it does a nice job. It adds an EQ capabillity and an effects loop, once I learn how to use it. I'm just now learning how to use the deck itself. I run the monitor signal into the line in on the sound card, use Audacity for the recording and add effects with it for now.

Use a mic and the mixer's EQ, add a bit of delay and it starts sounding pretty good. Only problem is I have so much outside noise here from cars and dogs I can rarely record...and at 3AM it's acoustic only...

i can appreciate your situation with the low-tech set up but you have a long way to go amigo,im not trying to piss you off but it reminds me of demo tapes i made in my garage when i was 14...the guitar sounds crap and the vocals(if you can call them that) just dont work,it really leaves me streching for something positive to say...just try harder and prove me wrong.

Yo Steve,
I know it gets cold in Winnipeg this time of year, but my advice from last year still holds , "GET YO ASS OUT AND JAM!". ( and while you're out there, see if ya can't pick up a better amp. That little Marshall sucks.) You sound best when you're playing with a drummer. I still most like the blues tune.
Rock On Bro!

Yes Steve I am/we are a Christian band we have 16 tunes we have written together. Usually starts with a few "inspired lyrics" and then our Front will "work it up some" then with a basic rhythem in mind each player "writes" his own music / part and then we hash it out untill we have the whole basic song. There is a 10 or so year of age gap between each of our members 20-30-40-50 and all of a different theology back ground. I cant explain it but we get along so well together, for each of us practice night is like the highlight of the week. Rain and Life were my work at initiation, Noise Polution started with Ray, We have one tune that was originated as a poem written by our drummers brother (with his blessin) As for me Ive thought spoke and done such evil in my lifetime
I am awstruck that anyone would forgive me much less die for me.
And even now pushin 50 yrs old wife, four kids, grandkids, good job, live in the greatist country in the world, etc etc. It is a daily struggle to love my brother instead of popin a cap on his sorry ass when they piss me off.

Steve, keep working on it and listen carefully to the advice given from some of the experienced musicians here. There are some great musicians on here willing to help. When asking for critiques, be specific on what your looking for. There are more than enough arm chair critiquers on the forums with limited experience or knowledge of music willing to say "it sounds like crap". I think you have a good starting base to work from. Don't worry so much about recording gear and techniques right now. Work on improving your playing and or singing. Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. Get together with other people and jam. Don't just focus on one technique or style. It will all come together with time. Good luck.
