There's no way I could possibly kayak in every white water stream around here in my lifetime. Mountains, waterfalls, oh...I love it.
I hear ya. I lived in Raleigh for a year before coming to Tampa, and while I got plenty of the 'yankee go home' 'tude, once you get out of the city, it turns out the Carolinas are really cool. Lots of nature, mountains (I really miss mountains), small towns that look like they come from a Rockwell painting... I really liked Asheville (NC), had a gf out in Forest City and really got in tune w/ the lifestyle. And then someone lured me to Tampa w/ a pile o' cash. If I had it to do over...
The local music scene there really surprised me. Not sure what I expected, but on any given night, there was live music in a number of venues, and I never needed to go very far to find it. Lotsa good bands/musicians and more variety than I would have expected.
I have a neighbor who rented out her house here and moved up to SC. I think she had the right idea.
