Epiphany Time!

If this BandMix site is starting to lose customers, or popularity, maybe it is not doing what the musicians who came here thought it would, or should do.

Suggestion Time.

Re-examine the "Premium" thingie.

This not being able to contact others, or use some other features unless you pay, is kind of chintzy. (even lame) I'm on a few other sites that do something like this one is supposed to do, but the limit on the size of an upload is not some measly 10 Mb and they freely allow members to connect with one another, therefore they stay, and are loyal to the site.

Maybe whoever runs this thing, if they really care about musicians, and if they could understand, that for the most part, they (the musicians) can't really afford to pay a fee to play, they'd rethink the way they treat the unemployed musicians trying to connect with other musicians. I thought the whole point of this bandMix site, was to get people together, not drive them away.

I've already experienced some minor irritations just trying to place a (URL), and I felt a little awkward, after being informed about spamming, I felt I had to justify my actions as not spam when I was in-fact just putting an example up for all to see, and maybe someone would have offered me some useful technical tips, so I could continue being a happy little drone. As it is, now, my interest is peaked.

In retrospect, if I think of that dark dreary day, with the tumble weeds blowing across my living room. I could, and did at the time interpret the message I got as a warning.

What exactly was I doing wrong that I needed to be pulled over and warned. It kind of felt like a DWB infraction. Any of my friends with African heritage will get that joke. I'm not going as far as to say anyone is being pushy, but I did feel a bit pushed around.

Maybe that is how I ended up here, kind of a synergistic thing, or kismet as some might call it.

How about it, anyone wanna talk about fixing this thing before it goes the way of "Myspace?

Broke musicians do not have the kind of money to spend that the operators of this BandMix thing are expecting them to fork over for really not all that much of anything.

I'm calling you out to play BandMix, lets go.

Not sure where someone was suggesting you were spamming? Someone quesitoned, I think, whether what you were linking was a legitimate link, maybe. As alrady discussed, this website has been having some site issues with posting, and links, etc. Hopefully they will get that ironed out. At the same time, I don't think they are 'over trying' to attract a big premium user base, either - this place is what it is, and they probalby generate as much income from the streamng ads as form paying members.
There are so many places available online now to post your music - for free (plus 'premium services') that it's a whore's market. And I occasionally do get the same kind of site hiccups (not being able to post a video link, for example) at reverbnation, my main personal site. Take a look at how many people are updating their profiles on a daily basis and you will see that this site is nowhere near dead, but these forums have not been real active in the couple of years I've been here.

As far as we can tell, the admin never read these forums at all, unless someone contacts them about a problem post, which is whay (I assume) they asked for a couple of moderators to help things stay in line. The TOA were shown to you when you signed up, I dont' think anyone really needs to be reminded of htem every time they come here (and who reads them anyway?) It's pretty much common sense stuff.

You know, I'm just flipping over rocks to see what crawls out from under them.

I still think the administration should get their feet wet, and come down to hang out with us little people every now and then.

Otherwise, they appear to be just holders of the stock, waiting around for the dividends from the market. If the stock is falling due to the quality of the product, they should do something about it, or sell it to someone who cares.

I'm not against moderators, or reminders of conduct, or even "Wee Willies" I just think this BandMix thing could be a much better experience if whoever is actually operating it, were to actively make sure it is worthy of us, the users of the site.

I don't like being taxed without representation, so to say. (that was for all the political junkies).

I won't give up just yet, I know things take time, I just hope the owners of this site are willing to do something. If myself, and others using BandMix generates add revenue, forget the premiums possibly paid, then, they (the owners) are making money because of folks like me. I expect a certain amount of acknowledgement that I, and others matter.

In my overly active imagination, I imagine the ones who own this thing, are just kicking back on some sunny tropical beach somewhere, oblivious to our minor inconveniences, and wasted time, having a good old belly laugh at us, as they collect the cheques, and order yet another drink from the floating bar.

I know there are a lot of details that go into keeping these kinds of forums up and running, but, that's what the money that is generated should be used for. After the thing is working, and all the technical problems have been fixed, then it is time to kick back on the beach and righteously collect the profits.

I'll even bye them the first drink, if I have any money that is. Until then, Come on you absent landlords, fix the dam roof already!

if you have tunes uploaded, then I feel that is enough of a payment to BandMix since then they basically have a free gratis product at their disposal.. if the tunes are entertaining enough to the few who by chance might listen then I am basically supplying free entertainment .. that should suffice as a gratuity enough to then dictate and broadcast/publish my philosophies If I choose to.. if I get run off, then I pull my tunes down.. Take my toys back home and find another to place them in..had a few supposed Nashville folks hanging around and it was getting me curious as to whether they were eyeballing Anytime Is Fine for commercial purposes.. apparently not..

So BandMix gets to use my content, I created, if it sucks or not, and collect revenue from my efforts. Hmmmmmmmmm, and I have to be happy with a faulty upload system, and like it or not, or go away. Sounds fair to me.

As a member of Socan, that thing that pays musicians for their intellectual content, I question if using a substandard site is payment at all.

I do see the advantages of meeting new people like yourself, Dayne Nobody IV, and exchanging ideas, but my original premiss stands.

Where, and when, are the absent landlords going to fix that leaking roof?

I don't think anyone is coming to bandmix for entertainment purposes (except for trolls who get their jollies by infesting forums)!
The uploaded/linked tunes are merely a way for musicians/bands to show off thier work.
If people want to be 'entertained' its far easier to go to soundcloud, or bandcamp, or Pandora or many other places and browse and listen for free. Bandmix is too random (and how many profiles do you see with NO music linked?)

I originally came here for the possibility of linking up with other musicians with the explicit purpose of getting together in a musical way.

I guess I was wrong.

I have no issues with the members, I just find that the site dose not do what it said it would.

As for entertainment, the interface is far to clumsy for anything to be entertaining.

My infestation of this particular section of the BandMix forum, is only for the purpose of trying to figure out why the URL thing will not work.

I put the problem directly onto the shoulders of the owners. I only wish for things to work as advertised.

I appreciate the opportunity to mix it up with others, and exchange ides, musical or otherwise. I know I'm coming across as a bit of an ass at times, but that is just who I am. If something is wonky, I'm not afraid to say something about it. Please let me know if I'm being too (assy) and I'll try to be more vanilla, plain old boring vanilla.

The worst that can happen is, I'll just move on to a less exasperating site and try there.

You guys will be happy I've stopped pointing out something that is not working, and I will be off doing whatever it is, an unemployed musician does. (Trying to hook up with other musicians for the purpose of making a living playing music), instead of just talking about it.

Please note, I'm specifically speaking about the URL issue being the irritation, not you folks I have been irritating with my big ol' opinions and such.

I do enjoy the back and forth-ness, but I would like to feel like I'm not just pissing into the wind.

Manitoba has two great-ish lakes, Lake Winnipeg, and Lake Manitoba.

You must be pulling my leg, otherwise I'd say you are fitting the stereo-type we Canadians have of most Americans being completely ignorant of any place on Earth, unless you engaged in bombing it into the stone age.. Like happened with Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and on and on.

How can I respect any "political" comments coming from you guys, if you have no idea about the world you live in, and how it is inter-connected with all the wonderful people around the world.

Hey, excuse me for not looking at a map before I posted. fact is I was born in Canada - Granby, Quebec to be exact. they didn't teach me geography before I moved away in 4th grade, either. My wife is from Ottawa. Her schools didn't teach ANY USA geography or history.

Have you contacted the BM admin about the problem posting your URL, or the continuing problems posting in these forums? If not, maybe you should, with the same comments about paying for premium membership for a non-functioning site? as I mentioned before, the admin don't read these posts.

It was fun playing with you, and the few others who I met, but this kind of, whatever this is, is not for me. It feels a bit too adversarial on this BandMix thing.
