Well, you know, many people in this country have shifted so far right that a reasonable opinion will get you branded as a left-wing, radical revolutionary.
This idea that murder is okay if you're a right-winger comes up a lot, I've noticed. It's, well, disturbing. I doubt many of the people who say it actually mean it the way it sounds, but that sort of thing leads to fascism.
If someone burns the flag you have the right to criticize that action and complain about it all you want. That's your right to free speech, just as it was his right to burn the flag. So complain. Just don't be surprised if no one listens. Mind you, burning a flag doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It's likely to alienate exactly the people you need to listen to you.
Personally, I'm offended by the number of cars I see with flag stickers and flag-themed stickers. I'm offended because I
know many of them do it as a fashion statement more than as a patriotic gesture. In my mind, that's
at least as disrespectful of the principles this nation was founded on as burning a flag. At least.
