Well the genre does exist as mentioned by Danger already, this is a fact that even Muddy Waters discovered in his heydays and he wrote a song about it “Blues had a baby” (and named it Rock& Roll)

Each of these artists on this list play blues and rock. If I hear a tune and it has a blues progression and sounds like blues, well then it is blues. If I hear a tune and it doesn't have a blues progression and doesn't sound like blues, then to me it ISN'T blues. To lump everything that these artists does as "blues rock" is a misnomer, at least that's my opinion. Many years ago the blues had a baby and they called it Country. Quite a few years later another baby was born and they named it Rock. Somewhere in the middle a baby was born who later did some serious drugs and they named it Jazz. Then not that long ago a baby was born and they named it Rap. Blues, Country, Jazz and Rock all took paternity tests to determine who was Rap's parents...
