Erhem!

Ok Shredding. I imagine this is the technique where you emulsify the strings with rapid strokes correct? If so and anyone correct me?

There is a talent to this. I nearly but then didn't master it but got some way near it.

I find there is no point in attempting this unless you know:
1. Your scales
2. Your fretboard
3. Your guitar
4. How good you are at control over such speed.

Mish Mash is everywhere these days. I think keep it plain and simple and use what you know best, good or bad.

I like a guitar to sing, whether in chord or lead form.
Sounds precocious I know.

Soz :D

The only thing scales did was train my fingers to know where the notes were. Could have done that doodling just as well... Paleo, your a good solid player. I dont think you realize what a valuable tool that ,doodling is.Its how I come up with new songs and ideas and it helps to free you from fretboard thinking....this can lead to great improve. DOODLING IS VERY IMPORTANT. The last solo of the last song I posted actualy goes on another 5 minutes, all doodling, one take, nobody else playing live. I love it best when you get a band backing you up ,adding input ,helping to shape emotion, sometimes one note, sometimes a few more. To finish a 5 or 10 minute solo in front of an audience,a solo you didnt know OR rehearse note for note, and you still have every one with you at the end,THAT TAKES DOODLING,,,,,,, So you keep up the good playin.

giongi - Have you listened to any of my original stuff on my profile? Those tunes were all written by sitting there doodling, and out of nowhere a cool riff creeps out. I keep working with it, polishing and adding to it, next thing I know it's a complete song. Some, like Silhouette of a Daydream, take weeks to finish, I worked on it almost every day for a month or more. One small change popped into my head after playing and working on it for over a month. (only changed one note which also changed the chord, but it sounds really cool and changes the entire character of that section of the song.) That one note added a whole new dimension to the turnaround back into the main melody. And it came to me well over a month later, when I thought the song was finished. And it was just a doodle, doing something else...something, I thought it might fit so I tried it. It not only fit, first time I played it both ways for a friend he said it made a world of difference. Just doodling around...

Others, like Last Train, was complete in under a half hour. For that one I kept getting ideas for further instrumentation for a month or more, but the basic song was finished, lyrics and all, in under a half hour. I played it for a friend no more than 45 minutes after I wrote down the first line of the lyrics. Very unusual for me, most of the time it takes at least a couple of weeks for anything to really shape up, but it almost always starts just sitting there aimlessly doodling.
