Forget it, kid. I'm not interested enough to help anymore. Just go sit & beg on a street corner.

I'm done with ya.

Outta here!

Oh, come on. Don't be that way, bro.

I am NOT going to beg on a street corner. I NEVER even came here to beg. I came here for some good advice that I can actually use. Something that would work.

I can't go out, because my parents are the ONLY ones who can take me anywhere, and I don't approve of going to bars to chat with bands that are already touring. I'm just not doing it.

I'm a Christian, and I believe in God and Jesus, and doing the right thing. I don't want to get involved with some guy who's going to use me.

I need something that will work.

Will someone just give me a good website where I can meet other musicians in my area? Other young adult musicians who are just starting out? Young adult musicians who are NOT yet part of a band, or busy with other music projects? Someone who'd just like to get together and jam to some great pop and soft rock?

That is ALL I'm looking for.

I am NOT some poor guy.

I am trying to be nice here. Don't give up on me so quickly. Be a true friend.

Clifford

Also, I'm not a kid. I'm 24 years old, bro.

Hey, anybody else there? I'm running out of options here. Come on, please?

I haven't yet met anyone who can help me connect with other musicians. All the friends I do have don't know anybody I can get with.

Also when I do meet someone who plays music, he ends up being a guy who isn't all that great at it, or someone who used to play guitar, but gave it up because he wasn't that good or because of college or something. Also sometimes the musicians I get don't even play the instruments I'm looking for. For example, one time at The Annex, I found a musician but he played the trumpet. I'm not looking for a trumpet player. I need a bass guitar player, a guitar player (skiiled in both electric and acoustic) and a drummer.

And also when I meet a musician, he's usually into hard rock or metal, not soft rock.

I need guys who are passionate about the softer side of rock.

I also don't won't tough guys in the band. This band is about playing songs that get in touch with your emotions. Songs like Right Here Waiting, Crazy For You, Like A Prayer, The Way You Make Me Feel, Bend And Not Break, Didn't We Almost Have It All, Collide, Live To Tell, Like A Virgin, Hero, Greatest Love Of All, When I Think Of You, Rihannon, Gypsy, Baby Baby, That's What Love Is For, Piano Man, You And Me, Borderline, Lucky Star, Don't Mean Nothing, Escapade, We Belong, Love Is A Battlefield, Miss You Much, Take A Bow, Frozen, Open Your Heart, Alone, These Dreams, If I Could Turn Back Time, Billie Jean, and many more pop songs.

fisherman bob wrote:I believe you're being too restrictive in the kind of musician you're looking for and certainly too restrictive in the place you want to find them. If there was a musician outside of Baton Rouge who was willing to travel to you, wouldn't that be okay? Bandmix can only do so much for you. It is but one tool to locate musicians. There's a lot of other ways to find people in your city. Visit all the music stores in town and talk to managers, sales people, and especially music teachers and tell them what you're looking for. Tell every person you meet or know that you are a musician and what you're looking for. You'd be amazed how many people know a musician and how many people ARE musicians. If there's any bands in town that play the kind of music you like, go listen to them and between sets or after the show talk to the band members and tell them who you are and what you're looking for. Almost every pro musician knows other pro musicians and even some of the band members may have time to play with you part-time. Does Baton Rouge have an entertainment newspaper with a musical classified section? If so I would suggest running an ad there. Hopefully you've got the ability to get out and meet people. The music business is first and foremost a business of getting to know as many people in the business as possible. Call or visit any professional studio in your area and talk to the owners, managers, and technicians. I'm sure some of them would be more than happy to help you. Since you're looking for a specific genre of musician you need to market yourself locally as much as possible. I hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck.

Is there a band in Baton Rouge that likes to play pop, light rock and/or adult alternative rock? Maybe a band that covers those hits from the 80s, 90s, and/or 2000s?

Because this band I'm forming is a cover band, and well, I don't want the guys to bail out when I discover they don't like, or never heard of Madonna, Richard Marx, Cher, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Dashboard Confessional, Howie Day, and many other pop artists.

What is your problem? I'm trying to be nice.

I would NEVER lie. I'm NOT pretending to be somebody else. You can take this to the bank, bro. I'm a real guy who wants to start a band.

I'm NOT trying to make you mad. I'm a guy who listens to 96.1 The River (www.96.1theriver.com) and I cover most of what's played on that station.

Will someone kindly give me a better place where I can find those musicians. Help me find a band in Baton Rouge that covers some of those artists, or someone who plays within that general style.

I wouldn't be makiing this up. If I was that kind of guy, I wouldn't be on here.

So, stop acting so darn mean, and help me out. Please?

Look, bro, read my ad on www.Batonrouge.Craigslist.org. Go to community > musicians > Young adult musicians needed to form pop/rock band. Also you can go to www.myspace.com/cliffordblakemore to find out more about me.

What I wrote is the truth. I wouldn't make up this stuff.

philbymon wrote:Cblake, I see your situation, but I'm not sure why you're complaining, really.

You've come to a site that is basically designed for pro musicians who want to meet up & start new projects, & get upset when they treat you that way.

I look at it like it's like a dating service, in a way. You form your ad & profile, & hope the right person(s) come along.

The service contacts you when ppl in your general area are available, as they should. It's up to you to filter out those who don't fit into your specific needs.

You seem to want them to tailor their site to fit those specific needs. If that's what you want, I'd suggest you start up your own site for "regular folks" who don't care about gigging.

In closing, I'd suggest that you add some of your keyboard playing on your profile. It may generate some interest from ppl that are looking for the same things, if they can hear your abilities & feel like they could fit with you.

Good luck.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the tools to do anything you said. I don't know how to start my own website, and I don't have the ability to record MP3s. All I have is MIDI and well, this site and Myspace won't let you use MIDI. OK, so I do have a Myspace where people can go to listen to a few roughs, but I didn't record those MP3s myself. Those were originally MIDI files, and somebody I knew in Baton Rouge converted them into MP3s for me. Of course, they came out terrible. As you can see, Right Here Waiting needs a lot of work, and well, I've really improved on Like A Prayer. When I recorded it, I was still working on it at the time.

But you know what? I hardly use that MIDI program because well, it's a hassle getting it all hooked up, and everything.

Why is it so hard to find guys who like the softer side of rock? If I just knew of some bands in the Baton Rouge area, I might find a way to talk to them, and network.

But I need some help to find those young adults who enjoy the softer side of rock.

You know I met Jeff Healey once and he was damn nice. Made me wonder why I am not more easy going.

You are showing us that even people that don't see very well can be bratty and self-absorbed to the max.

Quit being a jerk or god will no doubt flick your little head with his big finger..

I know it's tough, but we read what you have written and so far you are not swaying anyone with your passionate plea. On the contrary, you are appearing impatient and whiny.

Why don't you start a thread that says "BATON ROUGE AREA ETC?"

Plenty of others have done this, but they utilize tact and diplomacy.

(Oh crap, did that just come out of MY mouth?)

Hey, bro, I apologized. READ the posts. This is extremely frustrating, and y'all aren't making it ANY easier.

Look, I'm sorry for acting like a jerk. How many times do I have to apologize.

Look, I try to state my case in a nice way, and nobody listens.

Why can't I simply find three musicians to jam with and maybe start a band with? I mean, I TRY the best I know how and it's NOT good enough.

I am NOT ready to perform in public. Most of the songs I cover NEED a lot of work, and they need stuff to go with them.

I am TIRED of playing by myself. I want to play with friends. You guys aren't making it ANY easier by acting like jerks back to me.

Also WHAT is with most of these people on here talking about boobs, doing drugs, and doing a lot of heavy drinking!

Also why are most people on here hardcore dudes? Where are the real passionate music dudes? You know, the ones who didn't just fall into "music." I'm talking about the guys who got their instrument at an early age, took lessons, found the music they LOVE at an early age, and stuck with it?

That's the kind of people I'm looking to be in my band. Not some no talent, jerk-for-brains.

Look, I'm sorry for acting like a jerk, but it IS guys like y'all who don't get it. And if y'all do, y'all aren't being very clear at telling me. It's nice if that's actually acknowledged.

Look, I have some friends, but NONE of them play music.

Again, I cover other people's songs like Madonna, Richard Marx, Howie Day, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Dashboard Confessionla, Plain White T's, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, and many others in light rock and pop, styles which are NOT yet availible here at BandMix.

Also there isn't a way to say whether your band is a cover band, original, or both.

I mean, come on, there has GOT to be someone here who can truly help. Now, please be a friend and help. Please?

Oh, yeah, and I didn't mean to appear whiny. I am a little impatient, but that's because I want to find these guys before they get taken by another band, or end up leaving Baton Rouge.

Also I thought that REAL musicians knew other musicians, and I thought that this would be a REALLY good place to connect with them, that maybe by looking ANYWHERE in the United States, talking to a few people here, stating what I'm looking for, and forming different circles until I found someone who wasn't a heavy drinker, a drug addict, a smoker, or a gay guy. In other words, I don't want to start a band with guys who want to live the rock and roll lifestyle. I want guys who just want to hang out, talk about music, and just have fun playing it.

Again, this band is NOT about wordly things. It's about friendship.

A true friend wouldn't have said things like: "OK, I like boobs" or "Guess which three I am."

Also what is with all the big, macho guys here? Where are the more sensitive guys? You know, the ones who are more like Richard Marx?

Also where are all the Christians? The key to me meeting the right people lies in soft rock. That's the key. If I can at least meet guys who are into the softer side of rock, then maybe I can move forward.

Now, come on, someone who meets more of what I'm looking for, please respond. Please?

Thanks,

Clifford

Hey dude....some of the most talented musicians drug and booze more than most...oh yeah and have a crazy passion for the female body.... stop talkin' Sh!t and start practicing and perfecting you're craft... you are getting crazy responses because you are acting like a baby a$$hole. I drink, I've drugged and I've had my share of women... don't make me a less passionate musician... I practice no less than 4 hours a day, I teach and I've got my degree in music and I play all over the place... lighten the fukkup and stop judging others with your dumb values and put your money where your craft is..... stop your damn whining.... ya freakin' baby! :x :P ...
