I'm confused George, I thought God rockers performed to spread the word, not get paid. If you're not getting paid it ain't a gig, and I would say it's a ministry but what do I know.

When I played Gospel, they used to always take up a Love Offering and ussually got beer money out of it.

Jimmy one deal we did was this blessing of the grapes at this guys vineyard that I went to church with. Once the minister did the blessing, they all started hitting the wine, and I got a couple of bottles to take home, still got one of em, I bet its turned to vinegar by now!

Some lady actually threw a bra at us on that one.

I had a lot of fun, we did this Gospel/Bluegrass/Rockabilly type thing. Basically I was Paul Shaffer, leading the music and trying to keep everyone on the beat, I did that for almost a year and half.

Well John maybe you got a little gas (from the beer). I would be careful playing any outdoor shows, you-know-who might zap you, He doesn't forget and He's an ornery cuss.

I've been enjoying reading everyone's comments. In regards to the gigs=work analogy, sadly i must say I have played some gigs that were most definitely "work". A recent gig sitting in with a jam band that shall go un-named comes to mind.

Still, it does beat flipping burgers at McD's!

I always heard that the "gig" is for cover bands?

And Show is for original music, like someone mentioned earlier.

As in "showcase" of original tunes..

We get paid.
Every dime plus goes back into the ministry.
Gig don't pay much but the retirement plan is heavenly.

You've been confused as long as I've known you.

But me n god still love you.

P.S. No sin in beer money. 8)

I played with a few show bands in my day .. and it way different than a gig.
One show band I played with did a different theme each set including costumes. eg:
1st set 50's R&R featuring different artists ..
2nd set 70's drug fest bands ..
3rd set 80 hair bands.
3 singers (one was FM) that could get pretty close on sounding like the artist and their moves.

To me a gig is just a gig with a bit of show thrown in
