Damn, Klugmo! It's a good thing you aren't into rap, industrial, garage band, screamo or techno!

I was just expressing the common view, my man, which, in a large part, I can even agree with, & I've even WRITTEN some country!

If you can't take the heat, then why bring it up?

You're a bit too sensitive about your choice of genre. You'd need even thicker skin in a lot of other forae.

No one, myself included, has said anything that hasn't been said before, & you knew that before you started things up again. I don't understand why you'd get so up in arms about it all. You've seen it before, & you'll see it again, & probably in way less friendly ways, too, so get used to it. Man up & prove us wrong if you can, or let it go, cuz chances are you won't be able to change anyone's mind anyway. No sense getting yourself all riled about it.

YES, YES, YES Danger I have said it! OK, I didn't gang up on it though. I didn't make up slang and ridicule it and the people that DO like it. I didnt refer to them as idiots amd imbeciles or want to kick their ass. You are right about the predominance of Rock here but that doesn't give anyone the right to ridicule what someone else prefers beyond kidding. This Country hate is deep. Oh by the way Craig, thank you, for jumping in. God help anyone who is a Standard Lover and comes here to talk about Sinatra or Benett.

LOL Ok that's cool KLUG, I don't hold it against you. It is difficult to hear somebody rail against something you love. I think people should be more open minded but I don't see that happening. Most people have already made up their minds about most things so it's a waste of time. BTW, I'm not the biggest country, rap or opera lover but I can find artists in any genre that I respect and enjoy.

Because it is his chosen genre. He is a performer and songwriter. People enjoy being appreciated when they have skills... which he does. And so it is all the more disappointing, when YOUR OWN PEERS cruelly mock your entire genre, rather than accept you as a peer... an equal... which is how it feels, when you are being ganged up on.

But I know most of you can respect that he has talent, regardless of whether you appreciate the genre as a whole... It's how I feel about Ryan... but it's hard to remember that "in the moment" when you are being crucified, simply for being in a certain genre.

I should soften up on SCREAMO myself.

It does hurt people's feelings, when the genre being trashed, is the same one, they practice their art within!

Personally, I like good music. I don't look at genre to choose what's good or bad, either. There's much I don't like in all the genres, but I take a less "American" approach to music, as a rule, by being less genre-specific. I hate pigeon-holing music or other art forms, cuz it automatically reduces my choices before I even see what's out there to like.

There are, & will always be, those certain artists that trip my trigger finger, & I won't ever want anything to do with them because of it, but thier genre has little to do with it.

I find American audiences to be the very worst in the world, from my own experiences & from what I've read of the experiences of truly international acts, because they're so wrapped up in genre. That, unfortunately, is not really our PPL speaking, though, it's our lousy media. Too many of our ppl only follow what the media tells them to, & I've never really been much of a sheep when it comes to books, movies, paintings, music, gardens, architecture, or performance art.

That being said, there is something to say about the way the media & the audiences here in this country screw up the choices of our ppl. Both our audiences & our acts tend to stick to certain genre-specific stereotypes, & that offends me to the core, because MUSIC is not something that should be judged on genre, but the individual worth of each & every piece of work, & not whether or not the artist wears the appropriate hat, or baggy britches, or slinky outfits, or speaks lovingly about his country or his beer or his dog or his woman. There is something to like in every area of music, if you can open your mind to it.

Far too many ppl cannot seem to do that, imho, & it seems to be a uniquely American trait. Euro & eastern radio & tv seems to prove that out.

I know ol Crip is just chain jerkin some ... and then not as well.
I tend to agree with him in general terms.
Though I have heard music I liked and disliked from most all genre'.

As a neo musician I would like to see most all modern genre' move away from the popular formats.
But it is just not going to happen en mass. The average consumer is just that ... average.
They want to identify with the wife loser who drinks too much and wrecks his truck against the dang ol train, the dope head who thinks he's some kind of anti culture menace to society, or a wanna be gangsta who's mom drive him to school in his droopy shorts.

No, good music is in the eye of the beholder. And the artist whom can cross socioeconomic and cultural boundaries with their music will always be a rare but beautiful find.

Got a good laugh when Crip chimed in, good timing Crip...

I detest country too, and at the same time I do accept and respect that it is a valid style of music and some of the musicians playing country are excellent. Roy Clark...monster guitar player, also plays a half dozen other instruments, all quite well. Garth Brooks...can't stand to listn to country in general but one of Garth's songs is a quite nice acoustic thing that I happen to like, probably the only country song in existence I actually like...Vince Gill...another monster guitar player. Check out "Oklahoma Borderline" on Clapton's Crossroads show, if you can find it. I can't pick like that...

There are others, that's just a couple of examples. On the other hand I can't stand Willie Nelson...hate his voice, never heard a song I liked, but that doesn't mean he's not a good musician, just that I don't like him. Ditto for 99% of the country singers you can think of. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean it's not a valid form of music, that's just my opinion, which I happen to have a right to voice, same as you.

But some of the comments made were very true, whether you like it or not. Country in general has promoted a backwoods, uneducated, hillbilly character for a long time and shunned any attempts at any kind of class and intelligence. That's a fact, whether you like it or not. Roy Clark wouldn't be where he is today without HeeHaw, which was an incredibly stupid show...in fact the only good thing about it was when Roy played...and that's exactly the mentality country has promoted and thrived on for a long, long time.

So get your head out of your a$$ and accept the fact that we WILL post our honest opinions on here. That's the best thing about these forae - for some reason I like that word - these guys can be brutally honest, but they will tell you the truth, they will tell you what they really think. If I post a song that sucks, they will tell me it sucks. Nobody here will say "hey, that's a great song", just because that's what they think I want to hear...Philby, for example told me my original copy of Silhouette Of A Daydream was muddy and too bassy. Or implied it anyway. I didn't get offended, that's what I was looking for...honest opinions. I got several...

Now you're getting honest opinions, and getting upset about it. It's been said already, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. The guys here will say what they think and you should already know it. Here's what I think...

Country sucks...

And that has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are a talented musician or not, it's not a personal attack, I just hate country and that's that.
