I,d love to hear some audio. I love music.
But me thinks you missed my point.

An sport analogy if I might.

Like a running back bragging bout how bad ass he is.
See how many yards you get without the offensive line.

A band is a team.

Or all you have is a singer with hired guns.

If we are to be just hired guns We'd best be paid damn good.

I didn't miss your point Sans.

I just don't agree in this particular case.

We're very much a team. But our strongest asset is our singer. She needs to be the focal point. When a band member is overplaying to the detriment of her singing, it hurts us all.

To use your sports analogy: If your best player on your team is the runningback, you build your team in such a way to feature that player; you put together a strong offensive line that specializes in run blocking and you pound the rock.

Conversely, if you're best player is a QB with pinpoint accuracy a strong arm, you are likely going to draft quality receivers and pass-blocking offensive linemen so you can pass the ball effectively (2007 Patriots).

No team exists as an evenly distributed talent pool. Some members of the team are clearly going to be better than others. So you feature them.

Hey - I've got as big of an ego as anyone. And I've love to be the center of attention and wail out extra guitar solos and all sorts of sh*t. But in this particular band, that's not the strength of the band. The strength of this band is our kick ass female vocalist. What we're doing is a smart thing, I think. Put egos aside and do what's best for the *show*.

Your turn of my analogy fits well.
I was not insinuating that any individual could / should detract from the whole.
Only that the whole is the sum of ALL parts.

At any rate I wish you the best in your venture.
Music is a tough business. For many reasons.

The singer is telling a story in song. If the singers voice becomes lost in the music. Then, what's the song about ? Oh,...is it now an instrumental. If that be the case....then we don't need a singer.
I have seen, and so has everyone else, that has played music very long, in a Band situation, the hot-rod lead guitarist that is on an ego trip. He doesn't give a damn about anyone else in the Band. His attitude; just keep strokin' my ego, with the rhythm section. Right now, I'm flyin' high on "tone" and lotsa VOLUME. Then there are the Drummers, that play "wipe-out" or something there-of, all night, regardless of what the rest of the Band is playing. If your Band has; good vocals, good timing, they will do better than average. I should add one more thing. If the Lead instruments play tastefully,...then there is no stopping this Band. They will be GREAT !!!!
