Yea and ol George had his sh*t together too.

Because innocent people die if we're not careful.

I've been torn on this topic for years... I hate criminals. But I've seen or read so many stories about people wrongfully accused, taken to trial, and convicted because of shoddy defense lawyers, overzealous prosecutors and power-hungry judges... And years later something clears them (a confession by the real culprit, DNA evidence, etc.).

Our justice system isn't perfect. We put innocent people behind bars. I'd feel worse if we executed them...

I've got no problem electrocuting the 3-strikes offenders. But sentencing a guy to death on the first offense... Scary.

I mean - imagine if that was you. Imagine if, through some strange circumstance, you fit the description of the killer, and a whole boatload of circumstantial evidence pointed to you - just out of coincidence! Would you feel differently about capital punishment then?

It can happen to you.

I would not go quietly thats for sure, but that possability is no reason to continue to allow criminals to prey on the weak.
The exicution of one innocent man as terrible a thought as that is, vs the violence against thousands on the streets because criminals have free a free pass. No comparison in my book.
I am much more likley to be killed by a drunk driver with a long record of arrests, than wrongfully convicted by a jury.
