There have been a lot of discussions about "standard structures" in songs, & some will poo-poo my suggestion pf a bridge, prolly.

I think the bridge is invaluable, though, in that it can really nail home the main theme, once you go away from it & return. There are few other ways to really do that. The only alternative that comes to mind is the key change. Stepping off the path for a bridge makes the return to that path real sweet, imho, especially when you're dealing with a slower song like this one. Without that bridge, it just seems to drag after a bit, unless it's very short.

There are reasons that some things are popular.

Im with Philby, I love an interesting bridge to break a song up.

I was listening to XM radio the other day and that Billy Idol song Eyes Without A Face comes on and in the middle is that heavy guitar part, jumps out of the song at you. If it wasnt in there I wouldnt even listen to hte song. But it makes it for me and when i hear it once in a blue moon I wait for that part. Its a little more than a standard bridge, but I guess it would be considered one.

Chris as far as writing acoustic songs Im not that good at it, but change your keys some. A simple key change can really change the dynamic. If you write one in the key of E maybe movethe progression to D or C is always a different sounding key to me and easy to sing over. You can single pick notes or strum. As far a s a mid 8 or break, you can finish a song and then insert it. Do stops on the instrument and sing over the top of the hold.

For me when I listen to songs I want to hear some sort of emotion, even stuff I dont care for if i hear real emotion in it, it gets to me.

You have a great voice from what I heard, try sometimes to pur some emotion, anger pain joy something in it. I hate the video world cause it makes us have images of songs that we might not have. I can remember listening to songs as a kid on headphones and imagining what I was hearing.

Guess Ive said enough at this point.
