Hell, I keep hearing comments about MOE.
They are ok, but not 100$ a ticket ok.. lol

My son's 1st concert, on his 16th b'day, was Santana, & yeah, I bought the tix. Since then, he's been to many concerts, but has narrowed himself down to Metallica & Ozzy stuff lately, much to my disappointment.
I have taken him to see Bela Fleck, Moody Blues, & Live, though, just to TRY to keep him a bit rounded.
He always enjoys a good show, but I fear he's just mainly a metal-head.

philby your son might be a god awful metal head...but does he truely understand his genre or is he just obsessed with the thrash of palm muted guitar and double bass? I appreciate classical music every so often I'll hear a part to a scale or solo or arpeggio and imagine it done with a guitar...and as for why classic rock refuses to die, must have something to do with the easy to whistle factor...most modern bands are either lame cookie cutter acts (that the average person recognizes and gets bored with in a few months) or are just hammering out emotionless songs, I still have yet to hear a female singer that does to me what Annie Haslam does but it won't ever be duplicated

Kids are great, My son, 26 now, has a cd collection of only the artists he worships; Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and and................WTF........... Basement Jaxx's! Thats what I get for leavin' that old Roland Juno layin' around

"If you can't stand behind our troops, stand in front of them." "The West was not won with a registered gun."

Last decent female singer I heard was Cheryl Crow. Didn't think much of her just from a bit of a song here and there on the radio, but when PBS played her Soundstage show, I was impressed enough to stay up late and catch the second airing and record it...That's when I found out in addition to a good singer she's also a d bass player and not shabby on rhythm guitar. She may play some lead too, I don't know, she didn't on the soundstage show, just rhythm.
As for new music, nothing with any substance have I heard lately. A few good things from KingsX, but that was over 15 years ago, Collective Soul did one called Shine that was pretty good, the only other decent new songs I've heard lately are from classic rock bands...Tom Petty...Jethro Tull...Pink Floyd...and most of those aren't exactly brand new...
Hey sans, pass me a lighter...
I'm a member of the BOMB SQUAD.

Some years ago, I can't remember how many,
(dinosaur that I am) at our shows I noticed lots of people holding their cell phones in the air and it being dark you could see the lights on all the cell phones, I thought they had called some of their friends and were letting them listen to us thru the phone, later I asked my wife why they were doing that and she just laughed (you see I married a younger woman) and said no thats what they do instead of hold up lighters like they did in your day. LOL!

Ahhh yes... the times.... Silent Lucidity was "THE" lighter song for QR... tonight... it was "THE" cell phone song... mine included...
It was great guys.... what I see time and time again from the classic guys I have yet to see at all from the new bands I have seen... sorry, but the musicianship and care taken to make every note spot on live... is just... well... missing...
4 old guys and 2 young guys (added a keyboard player that can sing DeGarmo's stuff & Geoff Tate’s son-in-law)... no opening acts... 3 hours of continuous music....
I put in a Journey DVD the other day.. the one from '81... and all I could think of was the new music... "Where are the songs??" Where are the hooks, the melodies the pride in your work???
There is just so much missing... it really is just a new age of punk when you think about it.... You hear a band like Journey live even today.. you get a REAL show... a front man who actually fronts the band.. 4 part harmonies.... an actual drum solo... OMG!!! And a keyboard player!!! It's like nerd kids taking piano lessons is a thing of the past... what a horrible shame!!!
I sooo remember why "solos" were invented... some of you that have been in traveling or working bands know... it is to give everyone else a minute break to towel down and catch your breath.... everyone took a turn, it added a few minutes to the show and let you work the cramps out of your hand...
Now days you have 10 bands, 25 mins each jumping around with their guitars out of tune and the so called vocalist eating a mic imitating cookie monster!
So after the last few weeks, the Journey DVD and tonights QR concert... I'm going to unplug my "modern" overdrive pedal and crank my Marshall back to 11 and play it like I feels it!
Call me glam, classic or old school metal or whatever... it doesn't matter, I will always try to make the best music I can every time I play. And if other people actually like it... well.... BONUS!!
...
X!
P.S. I'm up to 65 vocal audition invites and only 3 actual tracks have been submitted...
Talk about a confidence booster!!
