That stuff takes time, but the site was really well done.

Regarding loading up your page with all sorts of crap:
When A & R people are checking on musicians, and hit a site like that - one that takes forever to load - they click cancel, and move on to a page that loads in a reasonable amount of time.
.
As for me - if a new friend has a page like that - I visit them once - and then never again. I just don't have the time - who does?
:)

I did mine myself. I looked up a couple of videos, and basically all you do is write up some CSS, and cover up the normal page stuff with the divider class. Granted, it takes a little knowledge in CSS and HTML, but it's rewarding, and you don't have to pay someone else to do it for you:

www.myspace.com/repressthecadence

That's the layout I designed.

Not true, Alan. If an A&R [as you say] sees a well-designed, chic and self-promoted site, they would stick around. Granted 2 things:
1. They're smart, which is doubtful.
2. The site doesn't lock up.

I got that information from an article written by an A & R guy. I don't recall when/where it was - but he said he won't waste his valuable time with a site that takes forever to load.
Seeing as he does it for a living, I'll listen to him.
I was just relaying the info - not gonna argue.
.
And - it stands to reason. A lot of people skip the slow sites; don't kid yourself with theories . . .
Hell, - if he's planning on checking out one or two hundred sites, and one of them takes forever to load - of course he'll skip it.
Why should he care? The slow site is only one grain of sand on the beach . . .
Tough luck for the owner of the site that bogs down computers, eh?
Oh, well: - there are several hundred thousand sites that load quickly.

Hi Rhythm I do agree with what you have said but there is also an issue of branding the product which I am sure everyone will agree with? (Perhaps).

There is only so much you can do from a design standpoint as regards web pages, I've designed more than my fair share too. Just like music, you'll never ever please everyone but those who are interested will stick around a bit so long as it is different, has a branded image that mimics the ('band') in this case.

Adding to that too. If you are on Dialup there are many ways to combat a users preference but it all takes time especially if you are doing this yourself and an extortianate amount of money in others is someone else is handling it for you...

On MySpace for example the music player is the longest loading...... Here too I believe?

At the end of the day its about you, your music and what message you are sending I suppose?

Yes. It's all CSS. I found some nesting issues, but worked through it finally...

Come to think of it, they strip out all the comments, unfortunately.

Well, I went ahead and did it (took forever to find the "bio box" instead of the "about me" box..
Got the layout from here: (just a spur of the moment thing)

Can anybody take the time and click on myspace (link below) and see if it loads right, and if there's any problems?
Thanx Much!

ZY.

If you copy and paste the Bio section and save it somewhere like and Email for example you can play around with a new look anytime and then switch back if you don't like it?

Hey Kudos for having the nerve pal, well done!

Thanks Y'all! The only thing that bothers me is the mouse-arrow turns into cross-hairs in some of the portions of the page but that's no biggie, right?
Thanks again for all the good info everybody! :D
