To me the lyrics (what few I can actually understand) are not uplifting.
They do not inspire me anymore than most country or rap or, or , or,
so yea I would say most sucks IMO. The genre' itself has staying power.
So do STD's therefore I cant make a good / bad judgement by that criteria either.
Let it be enough to say I support Ryan as an artist.
Though it seems to me his lyric and personal outlook do not fit the stigma of his chosen genre'.
But then, neither do mine.

X2!!

I'm another of the "I appreciate it...but don't LIKE it" crowd.
I'm sure some of the stuff is quite technical...but usually it all blends together and is hard to actually hear most of the technical stuff.
I suppose the same can be said for the vocals...I'm assuming there is a skill involved, I just don't hear it....would it kill them to "sing" a little bit from time to time?
I just look at it as a delicacy for another crowd....kinka like eating bugs or raw fish. Some people love it.
At the same time, if you need a manual to get into it...it's probably never going to be your cup-o-tea anyway.

No matter what you say some people wont like death metal.. I didn like it at first either .. But then again i gave it a chance long ago and im happy that i did.. Because Bands like OPeth or arhc enemy are my big part of my influence.. even though the genre i work on is not planned to have much growling ... But still some death metal can be just repetetive and boring .. like every other genre But Some death metal bands are just better than most of the bands .. and they are simply not big on mainstream because people have a hissy fit when they hear growling..lol
I dont know im kinda used to it by now..and in the way i like it.. on some songs ..But usually good death Metal bands have a really technical and complex and at the same time.. good music.. I don get why there are not more people to support it .. But hey ! some people like britney spears..and i cant like it whatever i do.. Then i suppose Majority of world population like some other stuff which are cheesy in my opinion.. but i think next time you should put samples of good bands there too.. probably will be a good idea for lazy people who has the potential to appreaciate it .. lol

Some of the best Death Metal bands IMO, are (in no specific order):
Death (The very first death metal band...Check out the song "Crystal Mountain")
Daath (Some very unique riffs and solos...Check out the solo in the song "From the Blind")
The Black Dahlia Murder (More of a thrashy sound, but better song structure with actual verses and choruses...Check out the song "Everything Went Black")
Burning the Masses (More of a deathcore sound with breakdowns but technical riffs and catchy solos...Check out the instrumental song "Galactic Abduction")
DevilDriver (Melodic Deathmetal...Just discovered them last week)
In Flames (My all-time favorite...Swedish metal, with an amazing vocalist, great guitars with catchy melodies...Check out...any of their songs...)
Lamb of God (One of the most popular metal bands of all time, and one of my favorites...I did vocal covers for about 4 of their songs.)
Necrophagist (One of the most technical death metal bands...Check out the solo in the song "Fermented Offal Discharge")
Whitechapel (Probably one of the heaviest deathmetal/deathcore bands around. Disgusting lyrics, but brutal vocals and guitars.)

ryan, kinda suprised you hadn't heard DevilDriver before, you know Coal Chamber though? I didn't really like their 3rd release, felt like they wanted to add elements that didn't fit where they started out at. Lamb of God is just amaZing!! Death from what I've heard has added a lot of strong elements over the years, Steve D'Giorgio is just awesome. Check out RoadRunner United, I'm sure you'll love some songs from that lil compliation
death metal sucks..
(slaps Ryan with a big, black dildo)
Rt. 666 is a highway, come on an ride it... all night long.. LOL
(makes sign of the devil)
That should stir up some trouble..

Capt. you are an authority on what sucks because you suck large donkey scrotum.
Ryan, Black Dahlia Murder is from my hometown, I've seen them several times. The drumming is hypnotic. But I tend to support local bands I actually know and gig with like Girl Scout Hand Grenade and I Decay.
