Springsteen DOES have a lot to say. He IS a good lyricist. He HAS written a lot of songs that other artists have covered and done very well with. He IS one of the most famous musicians in the world. I guess I'm not into lyrics as much as the music. His vocals get in the way of the music to the point of aggravation for me. I wasn't in any way shape or form putting Springsteen down in any kind of political sense. Musicians by and large are not politicians anyway. I think some artists (including Springsteen) have capitalized on writing controversial lyrics. It certainly adds to the fan interest. Any publicity is good publicity I always say. My opinion of Springsteen comes from a pure musicians opinion. He doesn't really impress me musically. I'm not crazy about his voice. God bless him, I'd like to earn interest on the interest he earns on his interest. I'd be rich. Later...

I loved Born to Run, great album. As was Darkness on the Edge of Town. Brilliant. But that was a horrible performance of someone past their prime last night. I was embarassed for him.

I wrote this thread because I grew up listening to Bruce and his music pre-Born In The USA era, when born in the usa came out I still liked it. I like most all music if it is good regardless as to whether it is a simple 3 chord song or something more elaborate. I may be a musician but I am also an Ameican first and formost, even tho I am a musician I try not to be snobby and snooty about other peoples music. I have alway's been easily impressed almost to a fault, even if I don't like some music that doesn't mean it is bad it is just a personal preference, I try to keep this in mind.
I do not agree with Bruce Springsteens political beliefs and I don't agree with some other peoples political beliefs but that doesn't stop me from liking their music and most times even them on a personal level unless they are out to destroy our country or believe in practicing genocide or hearting good people.
I agree with you George it is about personal responsibility. Greed and a lack of patriotism is ruining this country, the problem in my opinion is there is a certain percentage of people in this country that don't and never will live in the real world. Daddy and Momma spoil the crap out of them send them to college pay for everything they graduate college get a good job and build a false plastic world around themselve's that has nothing to do with reality, only for another percentage of the public to make them and the others that have worked hard feel guilty because they are successful, and a certain amount of the 1st group I mentioned become politicians or corporate bigwigs that believe they shouldn't have to pay taxes or take a pay cut but that us peons should, while simultainiously stealing from the middle class via taxes and leading the entire worlds economical stability like sheep to a slaughter, and giving this country away. Okay I think I have ranted enough

I love Born To Run and have always wanted to cover it in the bands Ive played in and never gotten the chance. Who knows if I can talk my singer into it we might give it a whirl.

One thing I have liked about Bruce in the past was his concerts. They used to play for 3+ hours. He gave his audience what they wanted. I have always liked bands like that.

As for his SuperBowl performance, I thought it was little lame, but then they didnt ask me. It is a commercial event and should be viewed as such. He did seem to be energetic and I like that. Must be weird to pull a stage out and take off like that.

Has anyone ever heard Frankie Goes To Hollywoods version of Born To Run? I thought it was pretty good and had the intensity level up there.

Anyway I respect Bruce for his contributions, cant say he is my cup of tea, but I have huge respect for him as an artist.

The Boss is just different in a way that people remember. A lot of people can relate to him as a musician and lyricist.

I don't really like his music, but I did see him live once and he is a good stage performer. But his music is MIDDLE OF THE ROAD>.

If you could get the crowds to relate to you, like they do to him, you'd be a star too instead of what and where you are now.

He isn't a Mozart, but what he does, he does well enough.

Otherwise I agree with Kramerguy. SHOWMAN to the max.
