Upgraded last week. Sent 4 messages to locals w/who might be compatible.
After 4 days still no response. Dunno, maybe I put too much info on my profile? Prob. should upload some pictures and a soundfile or two, but havn't had the time.

I'm glad you mentioned that. There are so many entries on BandMix that don't have a single sound clip on them. That's weird. This is a MUSICIAN'S site. It's like asking to get an art showing somewhere, with no portfolio.

Hi.. this is my first post on the forum! I actually did find a local band to play and perform with from this site.. After a little while we did...figure out that the chemistry wasn't quite right and I am looking again... but I got my feet wet and had a great time. Now I have found two .. maybe three other musicians that want to collaborate and see if we can't put something together ourselves.. I really enjoy the site and have to say that I am quite pleased so far! :D

That's where the REAL fun begins, eh? :)

So far, I'm batting 1 for 3. Sent messages to a bassist, and 2 drummers. I'm currently talking to the bassist, and set up a time to meet and jam, and see how we play together. Have heard zilch from the drummers. Considering all the problems others have with non-responsive people, I guess I'm doing pretty well.

Who knows if the bassist and I will get something going together, but getting out there and finding out is just a part of the job, so I'm chalking that one up to a success regardless of the outcome.

FlyMolo I am in the DFW area as well and not having as much luck. I may have to broaden my view.

I haven't had much luck. I found a band about a year ago through here, joined them for a couple months and then left. The guitarist left with me and we're forming our own group now, but in the last few months, I've sent around 10 - 15 messages and only got 2 responses (both negative). It seems, at least in my zip code, that people sign up and then they don't log in. A lot of profiles had gone a month or more without logging in.

Honestly, I think what drives a lot of people away is the fact that you have to pay just to contact people. I know it was a big turn off for me at first, and I only upgrade for a month at a time. I understand the need to pay for keeping the site up, but for such a simple thing, I can imagine a lot of people signing up and then leaving.

You hit the nail on the head, " . . . have to pay just to contact people..."
.
I have about 20 favorites saved, but I don't want to pay that fee.
If I was charged, say $1, to contact each musician, I could live with that, I guess . . .
.
But - to have to pay every single month? Yeah, right - no way . . . .
.
I am sure that it drives people away.
Hey, how many 'well-to-do' musicians do you know, eh? :)

I've already contacted everyone in my area. Most didn't reply. I've been jamming with the bass player I met here, but I'm about to go back to freebie because I can't see spending $10 every month when there's nobody new to contact. BMix, how about a one-time membership fee of $10? Maybe more would join overall.

Julie, Hey, not a bad idea.
:)
Glad you've found someone.
Hey, how is it for you? That is, a singer working with a bass player?
Sounds like the kernal of a Jazz combo . . . :)

Well, actually, I've been playing with him & the guitarist I've worked with on & off for the last 5 years, & it was going pretty well. At least, till tonight. The guitarist & I have been doing an acoustic duo at a small club in Daytona for the last few weeks, but tonight he (once again) got all fu'ed & unprofessional at the show. Not the first time it's happened, but definitely the last. So... we all know how it goes; 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Had to postpone tomorrow's recording session, too. Musician "Flake Factor" strikes again!

Sorry to hear that, Julie. I've been there too. Yeeeesh.

I think there is some mythological significance to so many musicians engaging in totally self destructive behavior. Linked with Dionysus or something....

Julie, Yeah, I remember you mentioning the guitar-guy. . . .
- any other leads on musicians?
