Laughing... My... A**... Off...

Haha. I will help you out with the Metallica/Megadeth stuff the best I can. But "Take Five" and any Jazz is all unfamiliar territory for me, so I have to head to that stage, I can play a lot of today's stuff, like Incubus's "Drive" or Hoobastank's "Right Before Your Eyes," Lol.

Here's a tough one, I learned the first 10 measures of Fur Elise on guitar, wow, Lol. They called that easy, I called that a nightmare since I am far from use to classical guitar.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I LOVE Drive.. Excellent song with an excellent message. A real feel-good song.

There are a lot of great musicians here that I would love to jam with. Well, except maybe Captain Scott. I'm afraid he took a one way trip on the "Orange Sunshine Bus" back in the late 60's.

Ryan, You need to put some stuff back up again. I added one of my old recordings called "Won't You Be My Neighbor" to my profile. It would be interesting to see what you could do with it. It would be a challenge for any vocalist or screamer.

Drive by Incubus?

We covered that song at our gig last night for the first time. Went over really well. It's a really simple song to play, but for us, I think the harmonies helps it shine. I've always liked Incubus.

Hey, thanks for the nods guys!

I think there is enough talent here, and diverse talent, that it would be hard to settle on just one band out of it. Since I like a vast diversity of styles and genres, I could play around with quite a few bands formed out of bandmixers, covering alot of musical territory.

This might sound funny, but, seeing the collaborations happening, I actually had the thought, of a modern version of Motown. Motown had in house musicans, singers, artists and songwriters and turned out hit after hit, cause they had all that creativity and talent under one roof. I really think there is enough talent here to accomplish a modern version of that. It would be interesting to see, if we were ALL financially wealthy, what it would be like to rent a space for a few months and just start turning stuff out, with various artists putting their touches here and there, on different projects.

I mean, it's not just good artists here, but good songwriters and arrangers as well.

I think a few amazing ALBUMS would get turned out in no time.

That would be cool. Just for fun. Just for the art of it.

That song is amazing. Reminds me of As I Lay Dying. Now, you don't have it up for download, so you can just email it to me if you want. ryan.m.strain@gmail.com

I already have it all in my head...Now I just need to write some lyrics.

One of the most original funk rock bands, really. It's kinda hard imagining you, Southern rockers, doing a cover of Drive, but I'm interested to know what it sounds like. You got any recordings/snippets of it lying around?

I think we'll be keeping this cover around for when we do shows with more than one set (which is most of the time) so, I'll try and keep it in mind and record it for you at one of our gigs.

And once again, we are Southern Rock with a much more modern twist. Kind of a Southern Rock based alternative sound. I like alot of musical styles and write in different styles, so I wouldn't get pigeonholed into only a countryish type of Southern Rock, or even a Metal style of Southern Rock. Our music has a really wide variety of styles to it, but all of it sounds like "us". It always has a certain underlying edge to it, whether it has a metal feel on top, or funk, or blues or even a couple of 50's style songs I wrote that we do as well.

In another post I mentioned that we do Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" and even though we rock it up, to fit our style, it is still solidly funky underneath.

Here are a few other covers we do...

When I'm Gone - 3 Doors Down
Ride Like The Wind - Christopher Cross
Bad Day - Fuel
Home Sweet Home - Motley Crue
Faithfully - Journey
If Everyone Cared - Nickelback
That Smell - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Drive - Incubus
You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker

But when possible, we update the songs and put our own touch on them. Ride Like The Wind for instance is really a mellowish song for much of it, but we rock the hell out of it, cause I always thought that song was written to be a true outlaw song, more of a Rock song, and specifically, Southern Rock! :-)

And "You Are So Beautiful" is a tired cover song, but we do it because it means alot to many people. Some people got married to that song, or whatever. But we do it really bluesy. Vocally, it has as much style and emotion as the original, but laid over a much bluesier style. With the lead guitarists alternating blues licks on the breaks. I think it sounds better than the original. We fill the dance floor up with it, and no one thinks "Oh crap, not that song!" LOL

Some covers we are gonna be working on soon...

Beautifully Broken - Government Mule
Figured You Out - Nickelback
Buckcherry - Crazy Bitch
We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad

We're gonna throw in some Alice in Chains too, cause we all love Alice!

So, you play all the easy listening and fun for all ages sets, but you sneak in a heavy tune here and there eh?

You should definitely try Figured You Out.. I hate that short solo, so I always look forward to other bands who improvise on that part. Fun dirty rock tune :P
When I'm Gone and the Skynyrd tune are good too. There's something for everyone. Wonder if you tried Stormy Monday by T-Bone and practically every blues musician. Give it a shot when you get bored of your songs.
And hell yea, AIC all the way. I think "Would?" would fit you or Rooster.. but ya gotta shout that heavy part as hard as you can. Great song.. for the armies everywhere.

In our area AIC Man In The Box and Rooster go over real well, of course I love it when we crank out Them Bones/Dam That River.

Them Bones! I love that song, I learned the guitar solo to it last week, I bet I forgot it by now, damn.

All the songs you are going to be working on soon, Craig, are the most overplayed songs in South Florida by cover bands, Lol. I cannot stand listening to bands perform them anymore, I want to break their instruments.

I suggest with your vocals to do "Would", as Andragon was saying, or "Down In A Hole." Great AIC tunes.

Now if you want something really different, and very heavy, take a listen to Nickelback's "Because of You." Good very hard rock tune, Lol. You might be able to cover it.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I don't blame you. But that's kind of the point, if you are not a full-on cover band, is to play the ones everyone knows. Hell, we're gonna cover a few Daughtry songs too. What saves us from going out of our minds, is doing them our way, or those we keep true to the originals, at least we are going to do them really well.

I'm thinking Rooster or Man in the Box, but it may be "Angry Chair" cause one of our lead players wants that one. We'll see.

Haha. Okay, Craig. As long as you put your own spins on the songs I do not mind. Those I have to hear.

But yeah, you got a good voice for AIC stuff, might need some backing vocals in the chorus's (Layne's voice is very high pitched, but you can hear Jerry Cantrell behind him).

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

HJ..."rear-mount kazoo?" LMAO!!!!

'Twould be an honor to play with anyone from BM, for me.

Got together with the guys from Flamingo Road Monday night, & discovered I've pretty much lost me chops! (I still remember the arrangements, though, unlike everyone else!)

It's been a loooooooooong time since I played with any regularity. I really should have found the time to keep it all up, but it just seems so pointless to work on the bass all by my lonesome, ya know? Esp since I'm not in a working band.

Still, I haven't played much of anything at all since the operation on my ulna nerve last year. I found that my speed & accuracy have dropped considerably, & I tire pretty quickly for a guy that used to play bass for 9 hours at a stretch at parties just for fun.

I goofed around on the ol' axe a bit this morning, before I went to work. I'll have to do that a whole bunch to get back in shape, from the feel of it.

I keep getting calls from a guy that wants to work with me, but I have issues about his singing. I've been putting him off for awhile. Last night he called & told me he got a gig for early Aug, & asked again. Told him I would, so now I'm committed (or should be!) cuz I've never let a musician down before, ever, & never will. Maybe that'll help with the ol' doldrums I've been having over the whole music thing.

Anyway, back on subject - I'd work with any of you I've met in the forum, & love it. I haven't heard all of you, but thus far there are too many standouts to mention. Just the thought of having Howlin', Irmy, JimmyD, JW, Hunter, Craig, Mike Gentry, Franny, Andragon, Zip, lil Greenie Magic lady, sans, Neanderpaul, GA, etc. on stage simultaneously is a big O, isn't it? Everybody steppin' out to stage center occasionally...whoo-frikken-hoo what a time that would be!
