Craig Maxim wrote:New song: Full of angst and depression bro. I know that's what you felt, and that's what comes through. The repetition works artistically, because of the subject matter. Not sure if that's what you were going for, but the feeling to me is "someone beside themselves in disbelief and kind of stuck on that thought, feeling there is no way to win. Just dwelling and dwelling, on the same thoughts or feelings, and not sure where to go from there."
I liked it.
Yes and no Craig.. You are dead on as far as the mood I was going for. The repetition is mainly because I'm just mapping out the ideas. The mood of this version gets used sparsely in the final version.
I'll explain the final version to you because I know you'll be able to envision it.
If you were to listen to any Rob Zombie or Static X, you'll notice that one riff will be carried throughout a whole song, just in different textures. The bridge will break up that repetition, but then it's right back to it.
I knew when I recorded this, that it wouldn't become a final version. Because quite frankly, it wouldn't fit in a One Day Broken set. This is just the bare bones (plus I was having a little fun with a guitar solo). The first verse follows this version, but then it rocks from there on out .
The song was also re-structured, the tempo set higher, and most of the song sung an octave higher with some growl and tenacity (much like the chorus in Burn), and there's no guitar solo..
1st verse- the same as this mood.
2nd verse- hard rock guitars, vocals an octave higher with some growl.
Chorus (same tenacity)
Teaser- ( a teaser is something we do to break up the repetition just for about 5-10 seconds)
1st verse again- (hard rock guitars, an octave higher, tenacity)
Teaser
Bridge (back to the original mood)
Chorus ( back to hard rock)
The verses and choruses are basically the same riff, the bridge and teasers are used to break up the repetition. (I pretty sure I didn't need me to explain that to you, but someone else might stumble across this and not know what the hell I'm talking about))
I know.. It's songwriting 101. But the song turned out killer. Now instead of the song sounding depressing. It's a lot more on the angry side, just the way we like it.
So to put it simply. The final result is artistically much different than this version. We flipped the coin on this song.
