I mean without drop tuning a song like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath just wouldn't be the same you know? But when a young, errr should I say beginning guitar player only learns and writes music using drop tuning they are seriously limiting themselves and their ability. Just my opinion but I have given enough lessons over the years to see the trend.
BTW Wegman - thanks for the props. I listened to your stuff and you've got alot of talent. I like your phrasing and vibrato technique.
Thanks for the kind words, the feeling is mutual.
You do any acoustic type stuff? I would love to hook up with another guy and do an on line collab acoustic thing like Dimeola or something. I can't find anyone.
As far as drop D I guess I am closed minded. I just can't get into it. I played in a band briefly that did mostly drop D and after about 5 tunes it started to work on me. As far as the lower tone or heavier sound, IMO it's negligable. I find I can take like a 5th position D chord, add the lower 4th and it sounds dark and heavy. That's good enough for me.
