Wegman "you are killing me here," Rush's lead singer scares the crap out of me. I heard him the other night on the radio and thought "..........". Bleh. But I guess you are right, one person may severely hate something, while the other likes it a ton. Take me for instance, I like Megadeth and Metallica, they both rock. Meanwhile most fans on both sides would stone me for liking both. Lmao. I think I should change my signature to "Who can account for taste.". Peace out guys.

Rush IS a great rock band, they play circles around me, but I don't like the QUALITY of Geddy Lee's vocals. Neil Sedaka does have a luscious female voice and he IS a fine songwriter, not my cup of tea on vocals. Wayne Newton IS a GREAT showman. I know people who have seen his act in Las Vegas. But you're right, he's not really a very good singer. Not much range and certainly not much in the way of power. I like singers with power in their voice: Joe Cocker, David Clayton Thomas, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Clyde McPhatter, Janis Joplin, Bill Blue, Lawrence Steele, etc. Everyone has their own preferences in music. That's what makes music so fun, there's no right or wrong, best or worst, etc. It's all what inspires you and sounds good to YOU. That's the only thing that matters. What other people like or dislike is irrelevant (but interesting). Later...

Gonna have to stick up for Geddy Lee, the man has power I tell thee. It ain't easy trying to sing Geddy stylee and I know he ain't to everyones taste but I think his vocals are wicked :P

High Five Greenie!

See guys here's the thing. You hear Geddy, you know it's Geddy. I like that. I like musicians who are different, or unique. I listen to new Rush and Geddy singing and long for old Rush, and Geddy singing.

Seriously guys do me a favor. Check out the album Hemisphers and give him a chance. Listen to what he is doing vocally. I find it amazing that some one can sing like that. Fisherman bob I will have to respectfully disagree with you. You may not like his voice, and that is fine but his vocals on that album are amazaing.

I don't care for his vocals on some of the newer albums because he lost that edge and power on his voice. But being a Rush fan for 30 years and having every album, I will say 2112 and Hemsipers have great vocals

There are thousands of wimpy, whiny, nasely singers that I could name but just about any death metal "singer" (insert name here) gets my vote. I mean, I love aggressive music but gargled glass low pitch screaming is not talent. Don't get me started on one-fingered drop D guitar playing!

Lmao. The screamers drive me nuts, but some of Lamb Of God's stuff is alright (Like two songs).

Aeolian high five!!

Drop D tuning is the tool of the Devil.

I actually had some say to me that everything that could be done has been done in standard tuning and that is why alternate tunings have become popular.

I responded no, not everything has been done. It's just easier to retune the guitar and play the same crap over again but yet have it sound different with the tuning rather then having to be really creative in standard tuning.

I give you Creed.

I am now donning my kevlar vest and helmet for all the shots I am going to take.

Aeolian by the way your great guitar player. Great sound and feel. You have my respect.

You are going to need that vest because there are a ton of people who will not agree with that. I like drop D, but it is a cop-out tuning so to speak. It makes life easier on the hands, sometimes it gives it a heavier sound though. I must say I have trouble making music in standard tuning, just not creative enough I guess. However, I do like playing in lower tunings because I can get a darker sound that I cannot in standard. *Shrug*

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy

I know, that's why I said it. :D

Actually Creed is ok, but not high on my list of faves.

I like Creed, but that is indicative of Mark Tremonti's playing style, the Drop-D tuning. He is with Alter Bridge now and I believe one of their new songs "Rise Today," is done in that tuning --at least I know part of it is.

I didn't mean to say that drop D is bad. I look at all alternate tunings as just a tool for expressing something differently in the music. I mean without drop tuning a song like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath just wouldn't be the same you know? But when a young, errr should I say beginning guitar player only learns and writes music using drop tuning they are seriously limiting themselves and their ability. Just my opinion but I have given enough lessons over the years to see the trend.

BTW Wegman - thanks for the props. I listened to your stuff and you've got alot of talent. I like your phrasing and vibrato technique.

I see, I understand. Yeah I can see why beginners would find it easier to write in Drop-D tuning. Much harder to write out of it. Still, I still like writing in deeper tunings, but that is to get the sound I like. It is also very fun to mess with strange tunings, like Pseudo Russian. I would start writing right now in my typical C# tuning, or Drop B tuning, but my guitar has new strings on it and I do not want to mess with the high e. I use such a low gauge that when I keep tuning and detuning them they tend to blow. That is my life. *Sob* Lol.

Thanks for the kind words, the feeling is mutual.

You do any acoustic type stuff? I would love to hook up with another guy and do an on line collab acoustic thing like Dimeola or something. I can't find anyone.

As far as drop D I guess I am closed minded. I just can't get into it. I played in a band briefly that did mostly drop D and after about 5 tunes it started to work on me. As far as the lower tone or heavier sound, IMO it's negligable. I find I can take like a 5th position D chord, add the lower 4th and it sounds dark and heavy. That's good enough for me.

i agree with GuitarAnatomy about Drop D-- i like the sinister, morose sounds you can create.

worst band--> Fallout Boy.

worst singer--> christina aguilera. her voice, to me, is the dullest ive ever heard.

Woah, have to disagree.

Britney's defintely sub-par, but Christina is an awesome vocalist. That girl has pipes. Can't believe you said that.
