I'd guess most of you heard of Trapeze, right?

Recently I'd heard that they were unknown outside of England and Texas, where they played quite a lot

How about Bugs Henderson? Lick? Point Blank? Lightning?

After thinking about it, I stand on my three selections. "Obscure to most people?"

I stood on the corner of Peachtree St in Buckhead this afternoon and randomly asked 1000 people if they'd heard of BOA - only seven had and two of them were winos.

Bandmix ain't "most people!" 8)

Oh yeah, Ted.
'Medusa' stayed in my 8-track player for most of a summer.
Yeah, they toured Texas A LOT but so did Ten Years After.
Glenn Hughes is still wailing away last I heard. Mel Galley went on to play w/ some big named band in the 80s. I think the drummer landed w/ Judas Priest.

Glen Hughes went on to Deep Purple (Burn!) and Mel Galley was with Whitesnake when the other guitarist and he were goofing around and his hand got rolled over. Needed a device to clamp his hand shut from then on. Saw a Trapeze reunion tour in Dallas, late 90s, and he was still able to do most of his parts, but they added another guitarist for some songs. When I told him backstage that I hadn't noticed it, he literally started crying and said that was the best compliment I could give him.

but you are SW Louisianna, or as we call it "cajun east texas".....did anyone else here on bandmix ever hear of them???

I'm gonna give it a try. This is the first song I learned on the drums and the first song I played with a band on stage back in 1969/70.
The Minnesota band Crow is best known for their 1969 hit "Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me," but they also cracked the Hot 100 with this song from their second album, which is often remembered for its massive drum solo. In our interview with Crow bass player Larry Wiegand, he explained: "We needed a song that would feature our drummer, Denny Craswell.
Later down in San Antonio "76 If I remember right" Denny and I rented a 12X22 storage unit and we would play on the drums till sunup. I don't remember his name but one of the rythem guitar players for Eric would stop down and jam with us a couple of times.

Except for BOA, I've never heard of any of the obscure bands being mentioned here by anyone. But most bands on major record labels today are just as obscure to me.

I'm in San Francisco this week, and went down to Valencia Street tonight. There were about a half dozen GREAT jazz bands you could go see for free, but the rock bands were a minimum of $40 to get in, and I'd never heard of any of them. Saw some posters for Lita Ford and also for Indigo Girls but every other rock band I saw listed as a big ticket item was completely unknown to me.

Ended up at a place called Blondies, but almost missed it because the band was sounded so good that I thought it was a DJ from across the street. Real soul music....Curtis Mayfield, Isley Bros, etc...

They played at least a couple of tunes. I particularly remember the song Ayko Biya.
At a time when 64th note Cobham style drum fills were all the rage, their drummer had everyone (well, me anyway) on the edge of their seats with a long half note triplet roll across the toms!

i think of cobham much like i think of jaco. great players both, but too many people got the wrong message and tried to cop their thing and overplayed the living crap out everything!

the other negative thing i hold BC responsible for is the 50 piece drum set!

there's a great horace silver album called "Serenade To A Soul Sister" that BC plays on for half the cuts (BC is on side B....the other side has Mickey Roker!)....and BC just kills! of course Roker don't sound too shabby either.
