Why do you think I don't remember who I'm talking to?

I'm starting to think I'm a cranky old fart just for hanging out here with all the cranky old farts. I seriously need to quit this place.

Yod... this will cheer you up...

I vaguely remember that clip. It's several years old now, right?

Over the last year or more, I've been studying the subject and co-Producing a VR series with one of the top VR film-makers in the world...who just happens to be my son.

Since there are no rules in this space yet, whoever comes up with the best ideas will win. Money is important but not as important as knowing what to do...which will attract the money. We have already filmed a virtual reality tour of Israel from last February. We've got lots of plans and programs designed to change the way people read/understand the Bible; a niche audience of 2 billion people.

We released one episode from the first program last Oct 28 just so we could say we were the first. We've still got hundreds more episodes to release, all coming as soon as (young) people catch up to VR in the first quarter of 2016. Within 48 hours of that release we were licensed in South Korea, where the fastest internet in the world is. The Samsung Gear VR is currently the state of the art HMD (Head Mounted Device) and it only commercially released about 10 days ago....sold out completely in S Korea the first day.

We've been screening at film festivals in San Francisco, L.A., New York...checking out what other producers are doing and I honestly think we're way ahead of all of them with our business plan. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the future, and the future is now. The old paradigm will be swept away in an unbelievably short time, maybe by 2017.

Those who are aware will positioned for the future. The rest will go the way of the dodo bird.

keeping this to just the musical side of things.....we all are different w different needs and expectations when it comes to why we're involved in music, what we hope to get from it, how much the financial end of it comes to play in the big pic.

some of us choose to play in copy bands because there's more money there. others are more interested in creating something original. and there are probably a million other things to differentiate us that i won't even try to list.

it should be obvious that my playing in a jazz band and a bluegrass band.... i ain't in it for the money. but i'm in a lucky position....

i might be a dumbass, but i've made a lot of good choices in my life....one of those being making some very good investments that have allowed me the luxury to pursue the music i love to play w/o worrying about a day gig or booking jobs solely for big bucks. i do try to get the bands a fair shake and i'm mostly able to do that within the limitations of the market that we deal with.

but none of us are doing it for the bucks. we're about playing music in front of a live crowd and getting that immediate feedback (even if that feedback is IGNORING us or throwing something at us!)

all the veteran musicians here who've been at it for awhile....we've seen people's excitement for live music has waned, but there are still plenty of people who do get it. that's never going to go away.

musicians playing out in front of a live crowd might not be the most lucrative way to go in the future, but it's never going to go the way of the dodo bird.

Forgive me if you think that was a slight aimed at musicians. I assure you that it was not. I'm talking about the way music will be delivered in the very very near future. You will still be playing in front of a "live" crowd, but through VR it will be possible to have billions of people in that audience.

I realize you can't understand how VR is going to change everything yet....but it will replace TV & entertainment options, mobile phones, and even transportation over the next 5 to 10 years.

In about 3 years, when your phone rings you'll put on glasses and be teletransported where the person called from instantly. Combine it with AR (augmented reality) and this world is going to be a very different place soon.

Yes, I can see some good in it but what about the flip side?

Don't forget porn!

Deception is off the chains in the coming revolution. That is exactly the reason why I jumped in with both feet to counter those who will be better funded that we are.

Looks like I'll have the "good programming" market cornered!

I don't see it being a 'better' idea so I don't buy into it. If you can't understand this point of view...........I give up. :?

I assume you still ride a horse to work?

Is it a 'live' concert when you are 1000 miles away, wearing a VR set-up? Nope. No more than watching a live stream on your 'puter or tv screen is. It usually takes about 20 minutes and I'm bored with 'watching', then I'll just listen to the rest while I do other things.
I do agree with jookeyman, though, and can see it happening with today's youth who are slowly losing social skills due to having their heads and thumbs permanently affixed to their phones.

Yod, no disrespect, but substitute "The Lord" for every time you cited "VR".

Thou shalt not.........

yod, do you need me to divulge more prophetic predictions? like the yod's lament(sorrow) incident, knowing you were grieving about your brother?.. I am a Christian and the Lord discusses things with me, real as rain.. for you non-believers :D

Ted

As you know I'm interested in technologies because of my project. But I just don't get how VR will help me. Doesn't mean I'm not looking into it.

Can you give us the elevator version? You're no dummy so obviously this a lot of potential but I'm not seeing it.

The question is, how do I utilize this potential.

Thanks
Talbot
