Bob I believe what is going to happen is that people will simply start "shutting down" when their stimulation threshold has been hit. But fear not, thats the first step to reformatting! When the wall's been hit, you sit back, recoup, reexamine, and search for the "small sounds and sights" that may have been evading you all these years. One begins to appreciate the corners of the art museum never visited amidst the all the glitz and mayhem of the main exhibits (thank you, Martin Buber and the "Ich Und Du" experience). It is then that we can discover or rediscover the soul, the true value in all of the arts - not just music.
On the bright side, I have noticed this starting to happen with the repopularization of so much acoustic and folk. It just hasn't hit the mainstream yet.
