I myself have favorite songs from my favorite bands. It would be difficult to name just ONE. I could name several that i enjoy from their catalog but just one is a tall task.

i agree. it's folly to try and pick one (or ten) "favorite" songs.

it's often been said that some songs "resonate w you". i think the opposite is a better way of looking at it... there are those songs where after hearing the first few notes.... it's US who resonate with the song.

and i agree, even picking a favorite song from any particular band or artist is impossible for me.

but, i'll be a good sport and play along. i heard one yesterday that always hits me just right and can lift me out of the worst moods... "Love Of The Common Man" by todd rundgren.

i love how he uses this really cool bit of taking the word "everyone", using it only once to both end one line... while at the same time BEGINNING the next line:

"Take a dive from your ivory tower and fall on everyone
will catch you

that's just brilliant. i can't think of any other tune where someone's done that.

I started my Top 10 list out at abut 35 songs... then I had to start crossing off... almost like an NCAA Bracket.

Or this one that describes the end of a relationship:

And one of the greatest prog rock tunes ever:

Todd's always been my favorite, ever since he released Something/Anything, doing all vocals and instruments on 3 of 4 vinyl sides.
I'm at work, so assume the 1st video above is Just One Victory and the 2nd is Can We Still Be Friends. You can see a ton of Todd stuff on my 'other music' youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/fflbrgst

I can sometimes narrow my 'favorite song' to 2-3 songs by each favorite band/artist!

Here's one, from Newfoundland band Great Big Sea:
Studio version/produced video

Live version - sound is not great, but pay attention to the audience - dancing and singing along, 99% of every Great Big Sea show is like this - people singing and dancing along all night.

Thanks Planetguy!

Some of the 60's and 70's Indian film soundtracks do sound reminiscent of way out there versions of what Morricone or Nino Rota might come up with ... or maybe it's the other way around.

Here is Van Shipley again playing a version of another soundtrack tune jazzed up with lap steel and vibraphone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEgtGsImbBs

... this is the rock & roll version of the same tune as it is in the film

Namaste!
