I'm sorry, is this a thread about abortion?

Here's the thing...whether you are pro-choice or not makes no difference in their availability.
Abortions will continue to happen, whether they are legal or not.
I was recently told about a girl who (unable to find somewhere to do this the right way) tried to do it herself with a coat hanger, pulled the fetus out of her own vagina, and hid it in a closet...where her mother found it.
The girl is now being charged with first degree murder.

Now, if she had access to proper health care this could have been avoided.
That's what "pro-lifers" seem to fail to grasp, like the "pro drug war" people.
Making something illegal doesn't make it go away.
It just makes it illegal, and creates a new class of criminals.
No wonder America has the highest population of incarcerated citizens.

The thread started about a political party and evolved into a tenet of controversy, that all political parties wind up dodging.

I agree with your assessment about legality. These things will happen regardless. Better to face them without contempt, shame and secrecy, so we can learn, and adapt a structure of acceptable boundaries, unfettered by prejudices that haven't been examined. There is one caveat though... In our free enterprise system, people vote with dollars. That is to say, that despite laws, the real advancement of ideologies always stem from those with the most gold. In America, snorting coke is illegal, because it draws more revenue that way. Its not because they think its immoral. But like wise, they will smoke screen the real intentions with moral messages.
Rome adopted Christianity because it was socially and economically practical to...not necessarily because the emperors believed in Christ. So, my point is... Moral turpitude must come from within. It cant be legislated. People who choose to have or not to have abortions, choose, by their own volition.
Interestingly enough, cultures thrive or dont thrive, based on their practices.

I started the thread cause a lot of people get on here and complain about things, mainly that thier civil libertys have been violated over the last 12 years, I thought this party offers an alternative, thats all.

Like I said I took this little test to see who my candidate should be and Goode matched up with my thoughts, I do believe as far as abortion that women should have the right to chose that path. I dont think the government should tell them they cant.

I have differences in thier views of God, but my understanding of freedom of religion is to worship or not worship any way you want to. Without any sort of persecution.

This party has a long list in thier basic platform that to me, lines up with many of the things people on here post about, Ive never heard it mentioned in political threads.

I didnt mean for this to stray off in a debate on abortion, we all have our own view of that issue, and as I said its one of the glaring things about this party that I dont agree with, but all in all, they do match up with the way I think.

Its just an alternative thing to think about, when it comes election time the only thing you can do is vote for what it best for you, are there any perfect choices? No, I dont think any of us will ever find a candidate that represents all our interest unless we run ourselves.

I really don't see any derailment. We were discussing the candidate's views, which inevitably leads to discussion of personal beliefs.
