good stuff mike. casidy, entwhistle, were/are huge influences for me. i always liked and respected bruce as well, but for some reason he never got my ankles quite as hard. papallardi was just phenomenal. a great bassist but also a great composer and arranger too. and man what tone he used to get! "Theme From An Imaginary Western"will always reside on my short list of "greatest tunes ever" i'd also have to include mccartney in any list of great and hugely infuential rock bassists. phil lesh also has/had a unique approach too. that guy pretty much always colored outside the lines!

for me the thing they all have in common and the thing that i tried to take away from all of them.....they all played w HUUUUUGE personality, creativity, and inventiveness.....but they also could do that within the context and structure of the song and still make it work. no easy thing to pull off well.
