I played in a metal outfit called Forced Entry where we wore tailored black jeans and hand made flamenco boots. Felt cool!

My worst was a puke band where some agent got me a gig because I was broke and needed work bad. Dressed like buffoons - Tom Jones shirts with lace up instead of buttons, in pink! Crappy gigs too but at lead I made enough dough to get out of town.

A sad commentary on me but twenty years after that experience I remembered to call an old friend and pay him back the dough I'd borrowed to join the bloody union for those sh*t gigs.

Now days I dress a little bit western and still wear boots when I play. For bass players I believe it's wise to wear high heeled boots (cowboy or flameno, beatle whatever) because the bass is heavy and the heels help suport that weight.

In our Beatles tribute band (we haven't even had a paying gig yet) an argument almost ensued about 'costumes'. This was point #1 (or 2) when I joined this band - we're all about the music, not the look.
2 guys said 'black pants, dress shoes and jackets'.
Me and the lead singer said 'no thanks' If I'm standing up for 3+ hours of giging, I'm going to wear comfortable sneakers, or my favorite old cowboy boots.
When we did the tv shoot, the singer had a jacket on which he took off after 4-5 songs because of the heat. The bass player had his jacket on the whole time and was sweating like a pig at a Texas barbecue.
Dress for the type of music and the venue.
LD - I'm pretty sure 'designer' ripped jeans were "out" a few years ago!

You say designer ripped jeans went out of style a few
years ago GuitarM. Then they should fit my style perfect.
If you got it, flaunt it.

Costume, stage presence, smiling, enjoying yourself
are all parts of the show as well as music and all the
points that could be made about it relating to show.
Shouldn't you try to cover every base you possibly
can to insure your success as a musician, every base.
Isn't this what separates the popular groups from the
not as popular.

I need all the help I can get, so I'm trying to cover every
base, to make me a better player/performer.

The band I've been hired in has a showman/singer leading
the group, and he wants show out of you, so he can play off
of that. His first release on utube(6 monthes ago) has 130,000
hits, and his second release on utube(3 months ago) now has
over 400,000 hits. I think he knows what he's doing, and I'm
going to be the best guitar player I can for them. I've got about
a 1/4 of his CD learned, this man is going to break bigger then
he already has.

Have any of you got a half million hits? I'm just saying he's
damn good, and his numbers prove it.

Also let us know how he got those kind of youtube numbers. How is the 'word spread'?

I play with these guys for the fourth
time tommorrow, Saturday, I'll post links
shortly.

I'm just the guitar player, and feel I should
probably clear it with the singer/songwriter
1st.

Are you doubting it?

Wha? We just want to see the freaking videos. When I'm in a band I do everything I can to spread the word. Why would you have to clear it with your singer if it's on YouTube?

I don't know Jimmy, that's the way I feel
about it.

You wouldn't want to make a little wager
about this would you?

A wager? On what? That you're telling the truth? No, I wouldn't take that bet. It's just the way it works; if you say there's video, you post links.
