"Why not go to a local music store and talk to the young folks that work there who sell the very instrument you play...maybe they would have some ideas.

Call some keyboard instructors, take some lessons and start making connections that way."

Good idea, but there is just one problem with that. Guitar players and drummers are more popular in my city than keyboard players, thus most music stores are going to sell guitars and drums and not have much interest in keyboards. And also pop and soft rock music is NOT popular amongst my age group within my city. Everybody who is an active musician in my city prefers playing hard rock, heavy metal, and classic rock.

I don't need to take lessons because I already know most of the basics, and I'm trying to reach musicians who can help me expand my sound and help me move beyond playing covers of pop and soft rock songs and start writing some originals together. There aren't a lot of casual keyboard teachers around in my city, and the ones who do teach piano/keyboard there audience is aimed at school age kids and teens, not adults.

I'm trying to reach guys who already have a good solid understanding of music theory and know and like most of the songs and artists I can currently play and which I'm currently working on.

If someone on here could help me find some of these keyboard teachers, and keyboard selling music stores, I might consider giving that a try.

"Get on Youtube and find other videos like yours and reach out to those folks and ask your questions, Youtube members can e-mail each other."

There's only one problem with that. I need to find those in Baton Rouge only, and those who are not already pursuing a career in music or playing in a band. Thus I would need to find these guys through another source, THEN find them through YouTube.

People on YouTube don't always state on their profile where they are from.

"Get on Reverbnation and find others in your area and send them a message, you can contact others there through e-mail if you are both members and if the other person agrees to "fan" you."

How does Reverbnation work? Since I don't have any recording software and just that one video of me playing Whataya Want From Me by Adam Lambert, I will need to be able to link to or post that video. Also is Reverbnation free? If I have to pay a fee to post videos or audio or to contact members, that defeats the entire purpose of signing up. Also "pop", "soft rock", "light rock" and "adult contemporary" needs to be a selectable/searchable genre.

I just checked out the site, and well, it looks a little too professional for what I'm looking for. I'm trying to reach guys who are a little bit more low key and are themselves still learning and are not already active in bands or putting together any official music project. I'm essentially looking for those who have some other type of job, or just go to college, and just play music for enjoyment, and who are just looking for a friend to hang out with.

Clifford....

A negative outlook will get you nowhere...if you are willing to "shout out" in the GENERAL chat to musicians from all over the world, you can start going out and making connections...even with people on Youtube...if you throw up roadblocks, then you will just sit spinning your wheels. Go talk to people, if they aren't the right people, ask them what your next step should be, do they know anything or anybody, you would be surprised what you can find out...

Reverbnation is free. This is where I can drive my point home...You could have typed it in and went and checked it out before being negative and doubtful about my advice...you are not using any creativity or curiosity and so therefore you are stuck.......

Reverb has a part of it where you can look up folks by local. I have actually pm'd with more folks and found out lots of info through there and they don't limit your messages either.

The mother in my makes me want to warn you that Reverb will try to come at you and sell you on all sorts of stuff, don't buy into it, just do your thing and ignore the sales pitch.... If you can make friends...you may learn something...but that is up to you...you really do need to learn to be more resourceful Clifford, the info is all out there, put on your detective hat and go get it, but you have to want it really bad and put on a more postive attitude.....

Oh, and thanks for thanking me for the ideas....manners Clifford...manners....

Again, Tammy, I appreciate your insight, but Reverbnation has too much stuff on it. I don't know what type of account to create since I play music as a hobby, not as my job, and since I'm looking for guys who play pop and soft rock music as a hobby and looking to make more intimate connections with the individuals who might be able to help me in this search for these music buddies.

What I need is something less professional. Something that works more like a social network for amateur and intermediate level musicians.

Ok, enough is enough. I've tried to look the other way too long and tried to be nice for no reason.

Listen, you come to this site and ask for advice and then tell people that it is wrong.

You come here looking to meet people and then claim that we have the wrong attitude.

You come here for information and then claim that we are wrongly misinformed.

So enlighten us! Teach us how to be correct if you have all the answers.

Don't come here asking for advice and then when a nice lady gives you some you tell her off. You are a rude, spiteful, and selfish individual if you really believe in any or actually do any of the actions you portray on this site/

Glambertinelli!! I might have found the perfect bassist for you!!

professional bass player new to town - seeks gigs (boulder)

Bass player available for PAYING GIGS ONLY. I play G, C, D. If your songs are not in G, please transpose them into G. If your song has an Em or Bm or anything off the wall I will probably sit out that chord. Or I could learn those notes for $30 each. If you want me to do fancy stuff like go back and forth between G and D while you hold a G chord, forget it because I'm a "pocket" player. Minimum $100 per gig within a 5 mile radius of 80301. $5 per mile travel charge for other areas out of town. Please make sure your gigs are on a bus route, or you can pick me up at my place. Must be home by 11pm due to previous legal hassles. No gigs within 500 yards of schools, parks, or playgrounds. and if i could borrow your amp that would be helpful as well

* Location: boulder
* it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
