I'm 57 and they'll have to pry a guitar out of my cold dead hands when I go. My family will probably bury me with one, if I don't get cremated...or cremate one with me...
Not much arthritis, stiff fingers now and then in the morning if I take in too much salt, but usually I use none. Usually stiff in the mornings for a bit but I'm generally more limber than most guys my age. I work remodeling jobs and men tell me all the time when they see me sitting cross legged on the floor "Damn, I can't do that, I'd never get up!" I've just always kept myself limber. I walk a lot taking pictures, I'll get on my hands and knees to get shots of small flowers and insects any time, usually every day, and I still play guitar as well as I did at 30. Probably better. I have to warm up a little longer, but in 10 minutes I'm ready to go.
Walk and ride a bicycle a lot. Do some stretching if you need, to get limber. Get away from processed foods and especially fast food. Any more than one commercial hamburger a month is too much. Grow your own veggies if possible. Eat as many of them as you can uncooked. Cooking often destroys most of the nutritional value as well as vitamins, nutrients and enzymes that are still there either raw or very lightly cooked.
And stay away from doctors. Doctors average life expectancy is 50-55 years. Yours is 70-75 years. Think about it...Our local heart specialist, supposedly the best in the state, died of a massive heart attack before he was 60. And he was supposed to be able to tell me how to keep my heart going???? I've already outlived him.
I'm certainly not the picture of health, far from it. I don't eat "right", I smoke, don't exercise enough...but I see people all around me in the hospital every time you turn around, while I haven't been in a doctor's office in 30 years. Guess I must be doing something right...
Age is just a number. Another year. So what. Eat decent, keep yourself limber and active, you'll be playing quite a few more years.
McCartney has already been mentioned...he's far from the only one...Joe Walsh, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, David Gilmour, Ian Anderson, Tom Petty, BB King (over 80 and still playing) and that's just he short list. My sister saw Steppenwolf and the Animals not long ago. Both still at it and she said they played really well. Chet Atkins was still playing at 75 I think it was.

"...Every day, I climb another hill...
Every night, its another pill...
I think of all the time in life,
we waste and kill...
But, I'm holdin on to my sense of thrill...
Ther'es no loss of will!
No loss of will!

As mentioned already, Sir Paul turned 70 yesterday.
Tonight I'm going to see Ringo, who is 72. Playing with him is Todd Rundgren, who turns 64 on Friday.
Guess I've got a few more rockin' years.

I saw Ringo and Todd together about 12 years ago...Glad to know they are alive and kicking still... Ol Ringo is such a 'home boy" now...

they have a show called "Darryl's House" or something like that on TV Sat. nights at midnite and it stars Darryl Hall and various sidemen, playing on invitation basis with various acts who come up to his house in upstate New York and perform songs.. one episode had them in Hawaii with Todd Rundgren hosting at his pad.. Darryl Hall is the ultimate songsmith and what a voice..
Klug, I have a great pair of shorts left if you are looking for some burial garments.
You might have to hang onto them for 30 or 40 years.

Don't argue with a stupid person. They will pull you down to their level... And beat you with experience..."Samuel Langhorne Clemens"
Careful DAWG or I'll dig up a purple and yellow striped pair just for you.

Oh Sure..Now lets make Klugmo really Jealous...Your Purple and yellow striped shorts... My Purple striped "Bert & Ernie" Shirt...Ohhh yeahhh! I'm too sexy for the cat walk... LOL!
Ringo still gets the audience going, despite being a skinny little runt. He played the drums for a good 5 songs straight, too. Hope I have that much strenth in 16 years!
"Live at Darryl's House" is a great show - you can catch it on the web or repeats on PBS. Todd did a couple of shows, the one from his house in Hawaii is great. Amazing sounds they get live with little rehearsal time.
