Nice pics guys. Always good to see players in action.
Don't sweat the music stands George. If you were just playing a bunch of Grateful Dead jams no one would need them but if you cover a lot of other peoples music from different eras, stands are necessary tools. At last count we had over 200 songs in our catalog. Working up 50 tunes for a specialty gig isn't going to happen without lead sheets.

But in my situation where practice time is short and precious.
The stands ( or the music per sae ) are the difference in playing or not.
Not is not an option.
Sorry George didn't mean to bust you buttons,(stands).
Just put together a new band,,, we can do three sets all based on Mustang Sally......

We're not planning on being a 'sit down' acoustic act - we are choosing plenty of get-up-and-dance rock songs. Actually at the gig this past Saturday, we had the 'dance floor' (if you could call it that) pretty well packed, too.
Funny you mention American Pie - I said to my acoustic partner that is one song I hope I never have to play again. the other was Seger's Turn the Page, and wouldn't you know my friend gets a request for it on Saturday - so I played it, of course.
Music stands aren't really an option for me anyways - unless I get all the lyrics printed in 'old person big print'!

GB Im glad that you and your partner have sense enough to play songs people request regardless of your feelings about them, I see so many people getting things started band wise and they arent going to play this or play that, they are going to earn a crowds respect, the only way Ive truelly been able to win over people at gigs is play the songs they ask for. If they are a regular, then hey its my job to entertain them.
When Aint Yo Mama plays, I would say I could care less whether we play about half the songs we play a night, but doing that allows us to keep doing gigs and we do do a lot of stuff we want to play, and its ussually accepted.
Good Luck with the gig you have going and just have fun man, if it aint fun in one way or the other then why bother!
Keep On Rockin!

I retype in larger print as well as use bold italics and occasional different color .
Often print on card stock and the seal in thermal laminate to protect from sweat etc.
