We play "Figured You Out" in our set and the chicks love it.

I dig a couple of their songs, most notably "Photograph".

People are always going to find stuff to hate on. Screw the haters.

To be replaced by The Farleys.

(I thought the halftime show was supposed to be a large group of homeless people huddled around a burning car?)

Good is always going to be subjective Jimmy.

And I don't really see the point. What purpose does it serve to slap a label on something as "good" or "bad"? It's music. It's art. It's subjective. Some people will like it, some won't. Why hate?

The only thing that matters is that *someone* likes it. Isn't that good enough?

Being in a bar band, BTW, isn't about playing what's "good" or "great". If it were, we'd be doing Rush. We play what people want to hear and what they want to dance to. Sometimes that means playing a song that someone in the band doesn't like. I'm not particularly fond of "Paralyzer" by Finger 11, but people love to dance to it so we do it....

Exactly... I don't see what the fuss is against Nickelback.. (I always liked that song "Hero"... Its got its own signature.. ) So maybe the lions can call in Eminem...

They seem to have a formula of recycling their tunes. I guess they're trying to help save the environment.
Formulated poppy riff rock... no soul to me blahhh.... :? They are number 7 on Billboards artist of the decade.
But they still suck in Detroit! :D

I'm so fortunate to play in a band in which I love every song that I do. We've never catered to anyone but ourselves. We do our fair share of covers but they're all songs we love.

Every musician I know thinks Pickleback sucks but to each his own. If you have to do "Mustang Sally" and "Photograqph" in your band go for it. I won't.

Jimmy Jimmy now you offending me! LOL

Jim we havent ever played Mustang Sally in my band just for the record.

One night 20 years ago, at one of the metal clubs in Memphis, we had this dude come and in and he wanted to sing Tutti Frutti. He seemed like a mafioso kinda of guy, had this big guy like a body guard. Everyone directed him to me, cause I always seem to be the one to stop that crap.

So I said we dont play that. He said you dont understand I want to sing Tutti Frutti with you guys, so I said well just write the name of the song on a $100 bill, and we will play it, now thru the years that always worked. So he comes over to me with tutti frutti written on a 100 dollar bill, I went to the guys we kinda hummed thru it, got the dude up there and did it our way. The funny thing was here we are in this metal bar, and the crowd goes f**k wild over this. Anyway we go back to our normal stuff and I think nothin of it.

A few monthes later I go in this place to see the gal that managed it about some more shows, she said I wish you hadnt taken that dudes money for tutti frutti, I said Huh? She said every f**k band that plays here has heard that story of the 100 dollar bill and every f**k one of them has worked it up just in case he comes back! So every night I get to hear the most f**k up renditions of Tutti Frutti you ever heard, so when do you guys want to come back and play again?

Anyway, we bend around on a few songs that i dont care for, but we just ham em up and do what we want with them and play it our way.

Love Tutti Frutti!

I personally think if someone dislikes a particular song they shouldn't be forced to do it, regardless. There are so many great songs out there, finding 40-60 that everyone likes to do shouldn't be that hard.

I understand, and currently we dont do any Pickleback! LOL

Weve turned Sweet Home Alabama into a raggae number, done it in punk mode, and even done it country.

Im too the point that I could care less, cause Im given the leash to do whatever with any song, and the guys just seem to jump on board with it.

If I solo too long, the drummer has this little roll that we all just stop on so its all good in my world.

Well I agree about the formula...They are Rather homogeneous, aren't they? But still , These guys are human beings, who really didn't do anything wrong, and an entire state is pouring negative energy on them... I think that's just malicious and wrong. They could reject the band's presence without being so hostile about it.

And for the record... Nickelback has more hits in their recycle bin, than the Lions have winning seasons or wins in a single season... ever!

When you consider the mass amount of monetary loss the lions have cost in that context...I just don't really think they got room to be so evil toward other people.

Prove they're human beings. I'm leaning towards evil aliens.

And not the whole state, just 50,260 of us - so far!

F*ck Shtickleback.

I think the whole thing is pretty funny. Detroit has such a rich musical history and they know BS without having to step in it.
Give the people what they want!

I personally think that There's an assumption that Little Richard loved doing Tutti-Frutti for 40+ years... I'm going out on a limb here and saying that he probably hates the sh*t out of it... yet..he still plays it for his fans, which is really what a real entertainer should do...

Just my take...

Detroit has Motown and THATS IT! And for the record, they wrote songs there... like they made cars...All factory assembly...

So i'm really not understanding why Detroit points its finger at anybody else about their contrived formulations... If you ask me, Nickleback is only doing what Motown set as a precedent.

But I do agree with "Give the people what they want." I'm not saying they shouldn't toss nickleback out... I'm saying they should at least be civil about it.
