Agree, Canada is for Love peace and harmony. Believe it or not, most Americans like that, just in case it all goes to hell.

I think that state & US flags should be the only legal flags in this country, but some of the state flags need to be altered so that they do not include the 'stars & bars' of the Confederate nation. The 'rebel' flag was a symbol of American DISunion, & it remains so. This, however, is a personal feeling that has no substance whatsoever in the real world, nor should it, considering what this country, in fact, stands for.

That being said, it is the constitutional right of any American to fly or not fly any flag of his choosing. It is also the right of any American citizen to show disrespect for any flag that he or she wishes. They can wear them as underwear, or dew-rags, or use them as toilet paper or fire-starters, if they so choose.

As I consider myself to be a good American, I feel that I must fight for anyone's right to do as they will concerning any flag at all.

I can certainly understand your opinions in this matter, RGM. Some actions of my fellow Americans also offend me to my core. Still, we have to remember the letter of the law, & the true meaning of what it is to be a US citizen.

We also must remember that a public school is NOT a democracy, nor can it be. There are particular needs of the students & teachers that simply will not be met in a democratic form of education. Standards have been set by the school. I do not agree with them, but I understand their point. Personally, I would prefer that they allow ONLY the American & state flags in the school. I would argue for that, & I would vote according to those upstanding citizens that agree with my ideas on the subject to be members of the school board.

I will never say that we need to oust ppl that disagree with this form of gov't (which, I must admit, I, myself, am disagreeing with more & more every day). We need the anti-American dissenters as much as we need the "America, love it or leave it" types...in other words, hardly at all, imho. Once you close open discourse, open discussion, free speech in all its forms that do not harm anyone in specific & measurable ways, you no longer HAVE "America."

I guess, RGM, that I'm asking you this - what country would YOU live in, since, from your words, you seem to find this one to be so disagreeable?

Racist Bastard Comment

Have you never met a true American Hispanic? I have and have fought beside them and they love the flag and what it stands for.

I know plenty, and I fought beside them, in Brooklyn ghettos when I was younger. But we never idolized an icon the way YOU do the flag.

Ah...the good old days, when ppl didn't actually follow the letter of the Constitution any better than our own gov't does today! I think we have come far from there, yes - perhaps TOO far, in terms of being a dignified. unified ppl, but still, I would NOT choose that particular period of US history to be a perfect example of "Americanism," in any way, shape, or form.

I guess to some we're not a melting pot anymore. Only thoughts they want us to think are thoughts acceptable to them... the only race they want here are white and wealthy.

Wait, is wealthy a race?

I just love the statement the Tea Partier's have, "Let's Take Our Nation Back!" I guess they forget they took it from the Native Americans...

As for Disrespecting the Flag... only stupid people died for a flag, most died defending what it stands for, and yes, you can wipe your bum with it if you like... its an American Freedom.

Just don't do it in public or as an art form.

So RGMIX... what did ya think of Kid Rock's outfit

Or Sarah Palin Autographing one?

Or are you selective in who can desecrate the flag?

Most people do the right thing, I guess not where you live.

Follow up

He didn’t set out trying to get every patriotic person in America fired up. He just wanted to fly the flag on his bike, but 13-year-old Cody Alicea, aka "Flag Boy" has become a nationwide cause.

This morning, about a hundred people, including some coming in from the East Coast escorted Cody to school.

After arriving at Denair Middle School the group recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.Watch the video here

The teen who was told to remove the American flag from his bike the week of Veterans Day is now back proudly carrying Old Glory, with the blessing of his apologetic school district, but that hasn't stopped an online army from rallying around the flag.

Practically every conservative Blogger in America, every Veterans group, every patriotic group, and pretty much the entire state of Texas has been Tweeting, Facebooking, and emailing about the flag flap. FOX40's website has seen exponential traffic on the story, breaking all previous records for the most clicked on single story in station history.

A Texas online group supported by Rhonda Lyn, Texas Times Today is asking supporters to mail 1,000,000 small U.S. flags to the school to show support for the flag, and teach the school a lesson about messing with the Stars and Stripes.

A veteran with friends at Beale Air Force Base is arranging to have a pilot fly a flag and mission patches in a U-2 plane to deliver to Cody.

More support is flooding Facebook. One Facebook group is called Send Cody Alicea to Washington, D.C., started by Mike Epstein. Another cause is Protect Cody Alicea's Right to Fly the American Flag on His Bicycle.

Supporter Greg Hamilton from Reno started this website FlagsforCody.com, along with a Facebook “Cause” page, flagsforcody.

The groups trying to raise money for Cody may be able to pause their efforts, though. Newly elected Congressman Jeff Denham offered to take Cody with him for his swearing in ceremony in January, saying, "This is an outrage. Denair Middle School's anti-U.S. Flag policy is anti-veteran. It's ridiculous to think that displaying the U.S. Flag somehow creates ‘racial tension.' This is America! Many American men and women have given their lives to defend our right to fly the Flag. Cody should have that right, too." Denham is a 16-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Comments left on FOX40.com have included the phone numbers and email addresses for school officials, and they effectively shut down communications at the school Friday. Phone lines were blinking non-stop, and the website was offline.

"I'm glad so many people are on my side who thought I should be able to fly the flag," Alicea told FOX40 News after he rode home with the flag flying behind him on a short pole. Cody had been riding his bike to school for about two months with his flag attached to it. Earlier this month he was asked to remove it by a school employee.

There has never been a period in our history as a nation that we have followed the letter of the Constitution. Slavery, Jim Crowe Laws, anti-homosexual & sexist sentiments have ruled us as a ppl since its inception. We have fought over including god in our governance since before our inception. We have always ignored the needs of some few for the self-righteousness of the many. We have actually FIXED some of these issues, &, for that, we should be proud, as a ppl...but we ALSO must keep in mind that there is FAR more to do before we tackle these petty little non-issues.

America, in its pure intended form, has NEVER existed. RGM There have NEVER been "good old days," when all was hunky & dorry. We have been a continually developing nation, up until about 1980 or so, when we began to lose our way, in having a gov't that worked OF, BY & FOR the ppl.

THAT is what we should be concentrating our frustrated efforts to fix, rather than these insignificant personal agendas of topics that make little or no real difference in what we are as a ppl. Gay marriage? Pot? Flag burning? Are we going to allow these things to distract us from facing the real problems that face us, forever?

Don't we have more important things to look at? How about the failing infrastructure? Or the more immediate needs of WORK in this country? Health care? Taxes? Over- & under-regulation of co's that affect each of us?

WV just deregulated the electric co's. That, sir, bugs me FAR more than someone desecrating a f*cking flag, no matter WHAT it may represent to SOME of us, because this is something that WILL directly affect every person who lives in my state.

Pick your battles a bit more carefully, & we may actually SOLVE some problems, rather than just yell at each other over nonsense, like "they" want us to do, while they whittle away our country to nothing.

Also to the point of the thread... is the point of going to school to fly the flag?

Or is all of this Flagsterbation a serious distraction to REAL issues?

That was before the public education system. At about the time the US government was fixin to take the Creek's land in Georgia and drive the Seminole out of Florida. James Monroe hypocritically said that "The earth was given to mankind to support the greatest number of which it is capable, and no tribe or people have a right to withhold from the wants of others more than is necessary for their own support and comfort." It was the "Era of Good Feelings" which saw the "Panic of 1819" ; the first major financial crisis in the United States. Good Times Dude!
