uh, short and sweet... if the audience chose the performers we would be hearing 1000 bands playing a myriad of styles..

instead we get genres as to select what styles will be heard.

Seen the thousands of bands with hundreds of thousands of plays each on myspace getting air play?
If I were a record exec, I would do nothing more than listen to those bands all day and... good sound, tons o plays = contact.... IF the business actually ran on talent and popularity!

It's the same in all of the arts; it's who you know and, what is hot right now.
If a particular producer were to go to a black country artist and spend the money... you would soon be seeing not only a black country music star, but copy cats getting signed left and right.

For some reason there seems to be a lack of backing for white rappers in the industry. Could be that their all racists and the white execs don't fancy the idea of becoming thrown into the black entertainment realm.
Or the black producers don't want to shine up a white one in their industry...

OR It could be that Aliens are in control o the music bizz and they're racists too.
