country music has never appealed to me. it seems like, from what ive heard, a majority of country songs are about vague personal issues.

ive found that a lot of punk music (true punk, not just bands using the word because they want the title) focuses on larger issues.

im not a coutry buff or extremely knowledgeable in it, so dont take offense if you dont agree, im just basing this on what ive heard.

g! You are entitled to your opinion. Don't feel bad for expressing it, but certainly be prepared for someone to disagree with you. :)

I could lay out a ton of examples of where there are important issues like Independence Day (Domestic Abuse) for example, I couldn't help myself...LOL... and concrete Angel (Child Abuse) both by the same Country artist (Martina McBride) and are incredibly important issues, don't you think?

At any rate, I think people have a certain perception of Country music and tend to stick with that opinion.

Keep playing and enjoying whatever music makes you happy, just don't be so closed minded that you don't listen to different genres of music, you never know how it might influence or inspire you!

You got that right Jacquee, Be versatile. I love the old country, Merle, Conway, G.Jones, Hank Jr. [Outlaw]. Waylon, Diamond Rio, Restless Hearts, Brooks & Dunn, etc. I enjoy listening to good Blue-Grass also, [An American Heritage] Just as much as I like Alternative/Modern Rock, R&B, classic R&R, soul, etc.

The country music industry is thriving because "they" recognize where their fan base is and have adapted the music to appeal to that base.

Today's popluar country music is very similar to "classic rock" in construct/chord and rythym. Throw in a "country" voice, a violin (fiddle) and a great video with lot's of trucks and mud and you have a hit!!

While I am a rocker at heart, I love the new country as well because it is fun to play and listen to and the message is usually clear...not so esoteric that you have to be in an "elightened state" to understand it!!

I think part of the allure of country is that the tunes are easier to sing, and the people singing them seem more like regular people.
- no angry shouting and running around . . .
. . . just regular folks . . .

"I dont know if I agree with", Country songs are easier to sing ???? In my personal opinion, Country music is by far, Not easy for vocalist. And it is not the easiest music for musicians to cover. I would have to say, "SOME" of the country music can prove to be one of the harder styles of music to perform live. Take it from me Brother, Country is in no way easier for a vocalist. Than say "Alternative/Modern Rock" is. This is just my opinion.

i think my problem is the same that you find with any unfamiliar genre nowadays.

if you dont know where to look or arent very motivated to look, then the only thing youll find of the genre is the washed up, pampered songs, that dont reflect the TRUE songs of the genre.

for example, im sure there are people out there that think MCR or blink182 are punk, because its what theyre spoonfed from television and media.

in the same way, im sure that the country music ive heard probably shouldnt even be called country because its gotten exceptionally far from its roots.

OZ you are so funny! Throw in a little mud and trucks and you are all set. You are right, it does seem like that is in a lot of Country videos lately. Who doesn't like that, though. Most people have some sort of activity that helps them let loose.

g! You are right. It's hard to find something when you are not really looking for it. :)

As for everyone else, I think this is my favorite pose and I didn't even start it.

Keep an open mind and keep rockin'

I meant this is my favorite post. I guess I like to pose too! LOL!

V&B, I agree that I am not sure Country is the easiest genre to sing, but you know I have come across a lot of people who have that misconception. They tell me that I should practice some more Rock bc it is more difficult than Country.

Well since this is a place to spew, I guess if you asked me, I think some of the POP artists out there have it easy. Beyonce is one that I think anyone could sing her songs. Love her, she is beautiful and incredibly talented, just don't know if that always shows in the songs she records. But hey, she is making the money singing and I am typing in a forum. One day...

I definitely agree with Samic that Country has more people who are approachable and down to earth. I think what he meant by saying it is easier to sing, he was saying they are catchy tunes that anyone feels free to sing along with. Of course, please correct me if I am wrong Samic.

Jacquee Rae, you said. "I definitely agree with Samic that Country has more people who are approachable and down to earth. I think what he meant by saying it is easier to sing, he was saying they are catchy tunes that anyone feels free to sing along with. Of course, please correct me if I am wrong Samic."
.
I never realized that they were harder to sing. (oops.)
And, yeah, you're right; the songs are definitely something that people feel free to sing along with. And - usually easier to remember, huh?
The vocals seem more important in country, too, somehow . . .
I don't know . . .
Different genres of music have different moods associated with them. Country, although usually heartfelt, often seems more laid back.
Is that self-contradictory?
What do you think? Educate me, please. My wife is a huge country fan. :)

To be honest guy's, Nothing is easy for me to sing anymore. Maybe a sign of age creeping up on me. Dont know everything there is to know about music either. Learn something new everyday. Just enjoy sharing personal opinions, info, and simply gossip with everyone............Peace...

cant be bothered with a list of examples but im sure you will find one somewhere....i think its safe to say that if it wernt for country, then we wouldnt have some of the very much loved artists/genres, that people enjoy today.

Samic, I am happy to hear your wife is a country fan. :)

I am incredibly analytical so maybe I make it more difficult than it has to be.
When I listen to artist like Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Sara Evans, Ashley Monroe, I could go on and on... I think that they each have their own incredible talent. Martina has an incredible range that she contributed to listening and singing along with Pat Benatar on a crossroads show on CMT. My favorite Croosroads by the way. LOL! I guess I can only speak from my experience of trying to sing cover songs by these types of women. Ashley Monroe has incredible diaphragm control. I really have to work at singing her song Satisfied. Not that there aren't other genres out there that one could struggle with, I guess it is just that I have more experience with this one. :)

I also feel that you are right Samic, a small portion of country music is laid back, but ,to me anyway, it is so full of emotion which affects me and I don't feel laid back, whether it is because I want to go out with Carrie Underwood and take the bat to her cheating boyfriends truck or to try and protect the little girl in Martina's Concrete Angel, or even get inspired by Martina's new song Anyway. She says in the song, " You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway" I try to live my life by this motto.
I can site one example off the top of my head of a male vocalist with incredible range. That is Chris Young. He won nashville star and his first release was a song he co wrote with a friend. Drinkin me Lonely. In that song, he talks about the hurt of losing someone. And he hits some high notes that I think, wow, that is amazing.

Well Samic, ask your wife, I am sure she can site some of her favorite singers/songwriters! But I hope these examples maybe in the most minute form help let you know where I am coming from.

V&B age ain't nothin' but a number! :) And that is exactly what this forum is for, sharing your opinions and I guess a little gossip if that is what you want to share. haha.
