I got it all done but the ceiling fan, Pete.

T'weren't easy, neither, but man, she sure is prettier than she used to be!

I'm going back tomorrow to finish up, solo. I'll try to remember to take some pics for ya.

The entire thing was built so poorly, I feel like it's putting a million-$ tiara on a dirty old miner, though. LOL

The walls are still awful shaky. I'm gonna shore 'em up with turnbuckles, cuz I don't see any other way to fix things, save tearing it all down & starting from scratch.

3 days work, & I think I might make $130 on this one...bad, very bad guessing at the estimate stage, but you'll have this from time to time. My helper made nearly $500. That's what happens when it takes a whole day longer than you figured on.

I also lost my Porter Cable cordless drill on this job. Fell off the roof & busted up pretty good. So I'm actually in the hole.

Perhaps it's time to look for some other kind of work...

I'm getting another job out of it, though, & I hope I can make up some of those losses staining the Dr's deck, & restaining the bidg I just fixed.

So, I'm finishing up with the ceiling fan, today, & who comes up to me but the city inspector guy, asking me for the bldg permit.

I told him I don't need one, cuz it's a repair.

He told me that I do, cuz I completely rebuilt it. Then he went & talked to the Dr's wife, & then left.

No sooner was he out the driveway than she came storming out of the house, & I'm thinking she's gonna chew me a new one...but no. She was majorly PO'd cuz this was the same guy that had tried to sell her new windows a cpl weeks ago, & she turned him down. So naturally he had to come & mess with her, since he has the power to do so.

I've heard about the corruption in Martiansburg, but this was my 1st time experiencing it 1st-hand. They let a contractor be an inspector? What's up with that? Isn't that, like, a huge conflict of interest? Only in WV could you get away with this stuff! (Well, maybe in Ill, esp Chicago, right?)

So, now I gotta draw up the plans in detail, & hope & pray they pass, cuz the job is done.

I'll have pics tomorrow after the final cleanup.

Business ass usual I see.

I bet the local paper does not have the balls to run a story on it either.

I don't have the balls to write it, sans, cuz I'm operating without a contractor's license, & they'd surely shut me down if I said "boo!"

LOL

I'm gonna hagfta fix that one day, but DAMN it gets expensive!

I understand my man really I do.
On one hand we want to protect ourselves from unscrupulous businesses.
On the other we pay "the man" for doing nothing.
Catch 22

You could be labeled a "construction terrorist" and denied your Miranda rights. LOL

Are those 2"x8" rafters with a 2"x10" ridge rafter philby? I have found when I frame like that without a joist at every other rafter the building tends to be a little shakey. However I have found that placing the collar braces at the midway point stiffens the building up a little. Looks good though glad you were able to survive the winds and get your pay!

The ridge beam is 2 x 8, with 2 x 6 rafters, cuz they span less than 8 feet.

Since the bldg is so small, I didn't use any collar ties, other than the braces for the fan, & the 2 full length ones at around three ft. The fan is 52", so there wasn't all that much space to work with anyway, less than 5 ft on either side.

I'll prolly end up having to put on some snow birds, though, at least around thier sat dishes.
