Glen, if these outfits paid thier fair share, my share would be less. If they were regulated like they should be, we wouldn't all be in the mess we're in - slaves to the system. We'd have the system working for us, like it's supposed to.

Phil WHAT IS THEIR FAIR SHARE?
JUST put them out of business and another bunch of people out of work.
You are getting to the point were it is OK TO STEAL.
Put all your good stuff out because we are all going to Phils to steal in the name of feeding ,,,,oh lets say 5000 ,,hungry children for a year.
Whats the matter Phil, DON'T you want to feed 5000 hungry children.
Oh Phil that doesn't really suit the needs of the state and since are you really not important and contribute so little to the needs of the state, you do not give your fair share, WE THE JUDGES have decided ALL and ANYTHING you could ever own,, HAVE DECIDED ,, your rights have been terminated.

WELCOME to your America Phil. :)

NO PHIL ,your share will allways be more cause you keep letting these theives BEND YOU OVER.
What I don't get is how someone as tough as you keep taking it , and getting you to believe it is the other guys fault.
And NO ! I'm not talking about corps. Im talking about polits that are allready starting to resign and run for cover because people like me dont like THIEVES.

Phil some of these corps ,FOLLOWING, Secucurity Exchange RULES , have allready stated how much more in taxes they will have to pay out. They all came under attack from the obama administration ,for complying with the RULES.
How much did you actually pay in Fed taxes this year? 500, 1000, even 2000?
Did you see how much went to entitlement programs? social security?

Did you see how much goes to all your local taxes? This is where you get most of your money stolen. This is where most of your money gets Wasted.
This is what you should be screaming about.
Just add up your local taxes and take into account that they get help from fed tax dollars collected from big corps and rich individuals that pay 73% of all federal tax dollars collected.
Why not just raise the tax rate to 100% and be done with it.
That is what happened after WW1 when woodrow wilson raised the corp tax rate to92%. It was the beggining of WORLD WIDE DEPPRESSION.

I dont know, do think that it's appropriate for the 'haves' to hold up the 'have nots'?
Do you think that it's appropriate for the 'have nots' to try to hold each other up?

If you were trying to make headway and make more money for yourself, and trying to build some wealth - how would you feel about giving away a larger percentage of your income than Larry next door, solely because you had more income?

It just... comes down to what you feel is rght.

Um...I don't get it. Why would anyone condone this corruption? These co's have paid NO income taxes & EXXON made the most of ALL the other corp's! GE'w income was damned high, too.

If I hafta spend between 1/4 & 1/3 of my time paying taxes, so should anyone or any thing else that's making money!

How can anyone pass on this?

I'm surviving on what's left, so why can't a corporation? Come off it, ppl!

It's pretty obvious why this kinda crap can go on, when our Supreme Court rules that a corp can donate ANY amount of $ to a candidate. We knew it was going on, but to publicly condone it by law? That was a slap in the face of every American.

They've bought thier ppl in our gov't positions, & they've made it possible to rake in the bucks & pay no taxes on them, passing the savings on to thier investors, btw, not the consumers. You cannot be that naive.

They pay taxes like the rest of us in other ways, you say? Well, so do I. I hafta pay taxes on every good I buy. In my state, one of the poorest in the union, I hafta pay on food & clothes, as well as my car, my dogs, my home, tools, road tolls, gas, everything. Don't gimme that argument.

Your point would seem to be that a corp is worth more to our society than the individual. Kiss my butt! THAT's the kind of thinking you get with a purely market mentality. I have a soul & a conscience, something that a corp lacks. How dare anyone tell me that a corp is worth more than an individual.

You talk about this corruption as if "it's okay cuz it's for the greater good!" WHOSE greater good? A few investors? What happens if you tax these co's like every other entity in the country? Um...gee...THEY PAY INTO THE SYSTEM THEY BENEFIT FROM! Thier investors make that much less, but there's still PLENTY of profit. LOOK at the profits of these co's! How much profit is enough profit, & when may we expect them to put back as much as we are expected to put back?

Seems to me that you are the type that condones stripping ppl of thier personal property, thier ancestral homes, in the name of "the greater good," so you can put up a mall & get $ for the investors at the cost of the individuals, & "put ppl to work" in your comunity by offering them retail sales jobs. Same mentality if you care to look at it that way.

You cannot be serious.

Only if you're saying that these corp's shouldn't have to pay thier share.

I didn't see that in your post.

The arguments that I'm hearing from Glen & Craig just seem so odd to me! Craig, for all his proselytizing about right & wrong, says that this corruption should be allowed? I'm quite befuddled, I am! Glen just keeps saying we shouldn't pay any taxes, or so much less that it doesn't seem a real argument to me.

No, I dont think that they should only have to pay a perentage in the single digits.
But neither do I think it's their duty to prop up the poor.

Flat tax anyone?

ahem....taxes are lower for the middle class and without a strong middle class this country or any other country for that matter WILL fail.

Tax Day rhetoric aside, Americans' bills are lower

WASHINGTON (AP) -- You wouldn't know it by the Tax Day rhetoric, but Americans are paying lower taxes this year, even with increases passed by many states to balance their budgets. Don't expect it to last.

Congress cut individuals' federal taxes for this year by about $173 billion shortly after President Barack Obama took office, dwarfing the $28.6 billion in increases by states.

In the next few years, however, many can expect to pay more. Some future increases were enacted as part of Obama's health care overhaul. And former President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire in January. Obama and the Democrats want to renew only some of them, thus raising taxes for individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000.

As this year's April 15 federal deadline passes, the debate about future tax increases has Republicans in Congress and conservatives across the country portraying Democrats as tax-and-spend liberals even before any new levies are approved. The discussion also is helping frame the congressional elections this fall.

"The fact is in the past year we have had more tax cuts than almost anytime in our nation's history," said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn. "It's something that people don't realize because of the false rhetoric that is spread throughout this Congress."

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, said conservatives didn't see any need to wait before protesting.

"I thought that we were going to have to wait until the tax increases started to see popular unhappiness," Norquist said at a Capitol Hill forum Wednesday. "Last year, people started reacting, the tea parties started organizing, in reaction to spending too much. They didn't wait for the tax increases to come."

The massive economic recovery package enacted last year included about $300 billion in tax cuts over 10 years. About $232 billion was in cuts for individuals, nearly all in the first two years.

The most generous was Obama's Making Work Pay credit, which gives individuals up to $400 and couples up to $800 for 2009 and 2010. The $1,000 child tax credit was expanded to more families, and the working poor can qualify for as much as $5,657 from the Earned Income Tax Credit.

There were also credits for qualified families who buy new homes or make energy improvements to existing ones, as well as tax breaks to help pay college tuition or buy new cars.

"From investing in small business to buying a home or making it energy efficient, to sending your children to college to buying a car, these tax cuts are helping families and businesses across the country," said Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo.

At the same time, many states raised taxes last year because they are required by state constitutions to balance their budgets, even during a recession. In all, states increased personal income taxes by $11.4 billion, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. They increased sales taxes by $7.2 billion and business taxes by $2 billion.

States also increased a number of other taxes, including levies on alcohol, motor vehicles and tobacco, for an additional $8 billion.

The biggest tax increase in the health care overhaul is limited to individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000, though other increases would hit lower income taxpayers.

For the first time, the Medicare payroll tax would be applied to investment income, beginning in 2013. A new 3.8 percent tax would be imposed on interest, dividends, capital gains and other investment income for individuals making more than $200,000 a year and couples making more than $250,000.

The bill also would increase the Medicare payroll tax by 0.9 percentage point to 2.35 percent on wages above $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for married couples filing jointly.

You both miss the point and keep spewing the point while you completely miss it.
That 35 cent box of cereal,,, after you pay for all the hidden taxes added on becomes a $5.00 box of cereal.
That $1.00 gallon of gasoline is suddenly $3.00 ,even at $85 dollars a barrel.
It is the hidden taxes that just get passed on down the line to you and me.

How do you stop General Mills from passing these taxes on down the line?

Choice,, Just put them out of business. Just tell them it is against the law to make money. Or Just give them a tax break so that they can offer more jobs and make enough money to compete with Kellogs cereal.

The sad part is you keep blaming the corps that are actually paying the most taxes and at the same time providing jobs and goods and services, and you want to tax them even more ,

AND IT ALL GETS PASSED ON DOWN THE LINE.

Glen, taxes need to be paid. Corp's don't pay more than I do in terms of percentage. When they get off scott free from even coming close to equalling my percentage, it pisses me off.

By reducing thier profits, you are in no way "putting them out of business" anymore than you're going under from your personal income taxes. Sure, they might try to keep passing the buck, but sooner or later someone's gonna accept the FAIR profit, & THAT might put them out of business, which would be reedy-alrighty with me, if they've been gouging us like the gas co's, the pharm co's, insurance co's, etc.

Yep. Put 'em out of business if they're ripping off the American consumer. Someone will be more than willing to take thier place. I won't buy thier crappy cereals anyway, & I won't pay extra for crap I don't need.

The American business model needs a huge overhaul, Glen. Unfortunately, ppl like you are doing everything in your power to keep all the power in thier hands, which I find kinda dumb, but to each his own, I suppose. When a co claims a million dollar loss, after it made 2 million in profit, that tells me they need to be kicked to the curb, & replaced with a more grateful co.

HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY IN TAXES?
HOW MUCH DID GENERAL MILLS PAY?
HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE WORKING FOR YOU?
HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES GENERAL MILLS HAVE WORKING FOR THEM?

When these corps are gone I hope you have enough money to make up the tax difference and keep a bunch of people employed.

I don't kow if you noticed ,,, unemployment numbers are going UP.
Small business under attack,,, IRS expected to Hire 60000 to audit small business.

Thank God AZ doesn't have any gun laws.

Screw 'em, Glen, if they don't pay the same or more percentage-wise as I do. I figger about 30-35% after all is said & done, bub. Screw thier investors. Screw the corrupt system that protects thier ripping off the system while it fines or jails me for the same damned thing. They are NOT more worthy than I. They are NOT above paying thier fair share for the protections they get, same as me.

Sure, small bizzes are under attack while GE & EXXON WALK, MAN! Howzabout protecting those small bizzes instead of the big-assed gov't-buying jerkwads? THIER protection costs us MUCH MORE than the small bizzes do, btw!

I'm just waiting for them to hit me, & I'm sure that they will, looking at my luck. But the BIG GUYS? They'll walk like they always do, cuz they have Congress in thier pockets. Kill 'em all & let god sort 'em out, I say. Give America back to the indicidual & the small businessman, where it BELONGS!

I must pay a tax on every dollar that comes in, & then pay again on every dollar that goes out. If that's the way it is, fine, but make it that way for EVERYONE & EVERYTHING- NO ONE ABOVE POVERTY LEVEL SHOULD BE EXEMPT, & yeah, that includes corp's!!
