Ahh, yes, in the classic sense of the 3 Wise Monkeys who represent the concept "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". I often ascribe my own 4th monkey to that trio... the "Bad Monkey with his arms crossed... having no fun because the other monkeys are sticks in the mud.

In fact that is the premise of my band name.

But that is too simplistic for a complex world. I think we can back off that concept and just pull our heads out of the sand and start making better use of renewable resources.

We waste enough in America to power 3 nations our size... and our first reaction to that is to build another power plant and burn more coal. Global Warming or not... we are soiling our nest with pollution for profit and waste, and we have to change that if we want to remain a powerhouse nation.

Right now India has more Honors students than we have students... 12% of ours drop out every year... China is now the #1 English speaking nation in the world... and the leader in the production of renewable energy and the manufacturing of devices to capture that energy.

What are WE #1 at anymore? Partisan Politics, Obese population, law enforcement per citizen. These are critical times for our nation to rise above bickering and 100 yr old ideas of "states rights". We're going to continue to sink until everyone gets off their "Me & Mine First" defensive mentality, and back to United Union mentality.

Raising awareness = pretend to do something PC for an hour, then back to the same old shyt.

I agree that is one possible outcome. Another is for you to feel motivated enough to go look up how much it would cost you to go "off the grid" with your own energy capture. That simple gain right there, of raising one person's insight... plus the energy saved by all of those devices being off for one hour, is enough to justify the "raising awareness" effort.

Did you know that in President Carter's time legislation was passed by the Federal Government that required Electricity providers to accept any excess electricity you produced and credit your power bill for that amount? It was Great legislation that allowed each home to participate in building a national Electric grid that would have been impossible to knock out with a few well placed bombs.

But... State Congresses were lobbied all over America to pass their own laws to modify that, here in Bama you have to produce enough electricity to power 4 homes before they are required to "buy back".

This matters, because for me to install devices under 80 kilowatts of generation, I have to buy my own storage (batteries generally, a toxic mess to have in your back yard), and supply my own voltage regulation. This Triples the cost of a home system... and effectively destroys the excellent Federal law passed in the 70's that would have made our nation a leader in renewable energy.

There are better ways to do nearly everything we do in America today... and we used to be a nation of Innovation looking for that way. Now, we are Corporate and Credit slaves chained to a system and afraid of any iota of change or questioning that system.

For anyone who walks away from this conversation and googles for more information about their own power consumption and how they could reduce or produce some of that... its worth all of the effort. For Naysayers who merely scoff at the effort, its a complete and idiotic waste of time.

So, once again, its all in your perspective.

I work very hard to reduce my energy expenditure Dewy.
Though I'll have to admit it's because I'd rather spend that money on something else.
I'm keen on conservation as well. But not to the point of spending $100.00 to save $10.00.

I don't think this sorta thing "raises anyone's awareness," though. Do you?

Of course I do.

We're talking about it, aren't we?

It's like using energy efficient lightbulbs, or recycling.... sometimes it takes years, and even DECADES before people start getting the message, and make conscious efforts to change their own lifestyles.

Just because something doesn't change overnight, doesn't mean it won't change down the road. And just because something doesn't inspire YOU, doesn't mean it won't inspire some idealistic college kid, that will go on to take ACTION himself, to improve the future.

Repetition is a powerful thing.

The more consistently, some awareness program is practiced, the larger and more influential it becomes.

Everything takes time.

And everything has to start somewhere.
