Capt. - you said . . .
- - -
LOL I think Alan will have to groom them to be what he needs.

Professional with own ideas? Wow, hey, wouldn't that be nice?

I think it's exactly the way he's thinking about it.

I say, KEEP ALL 3 if they are any good and rotate them. You know at least 1 of them will want to cancel on a good show and that'd be time to bring in #2 or #3. LOL

Practice with all of them, have your favorite and teach any and all that are good enough. (replacements are a wonderful thing)

- - -

Capt. you hit the nail right on the head.

Here's the latest.
Girl #1: The first girl showed up last night for rehearsal.
I threw about 15 songs at her - and about 10 different styles of music.
(hard stuff, too - wanna see if she'd get discouraged) . . .
.
Son of a gun - she loved it all, and she can sing.
She picked out harmonies without any help. (whew!)
Married to a teacher, has kids, loves her husband. (This is good; less drama).
Not bad looking, much younger than the rest of us.
Went to school for music; intelligent.
Used to sing at weddings either as a solo or in a duo.
Been out of it for a few years - wants to get back in, but as part of a band, not solo or duo (less pressure).
Pleasant personality.
.
What's not to like?
I told her her she's in; start coming to rehearsals.
I added that it's provisional; we'll see where things are in a month . . .
.
Girl #2 said she'd been sick; emailed me that she's still interested, and said she hopes I still have an opening.
.
Girl #3. I have not heard from girl #3. She didn't answer my last email from 2-21-10. Today is 2-24-10.
I'll email her and giver her one LAST chance, but already she's showing herself to be not a prime choice, - in the responsiblility/dependabiity categories . . .

I'm telling ya, Alan.

The one that shows up for the most rehearsals, the most shows and takes direction like a pro. That's the one you want.

If no one steps up, take any good ones and make them ALL provisional.

(They might rise up on ya though, women can get mean)

Good luck man! It sounds like at least ONE of them has promise!

I have a friend now who is going through the process of looking for a vocalist... it's a b*tch. I feel bad for him.

I am so happy I have my vocalist. She's a pro; toured, done stage work, played with loads of bands... Has a great voice, and a super personality (really, one of my closest friends now, and I owe her a debt I cannot ever repay). I am so happy we found her.

If you get a good one, hang on to her!

Girl #1 - the one I provisionally accepted - just emailed me that she's 'doing her homework,' practicing.
.
Girl #2 I sent her a list of 3 different times and places to meet, yesterday; haven't heard back, yet.
.
Girl #3 just emailed me, mentioning that her delay was due to problems at work, and still wants to try out.
.
Stay tuned . . .

Latest update.
:)
Girl #1: Provisionally in the band.
.
Girl #2: Is giving me the standard excuse for singers who have cold feet: "I'm sick, and I can't sing."
Then later, she added, "Just got better, then I got sick w/ something else, again."
Uh- huh. Then why'd you answer the ad?
Maybe she really is sick. Maybe she changed her mind?
Who cares? I've already allowed her to waste 25 minutes of my time exchanging emails, and I've heard it all before . . .
I'm not going to email her again; I'm taking her off the list, and I'm fogetting about her.
She's out.
I told her to call me when she's healthy.
So if she really wants to be in my band, she'll email back, but I doubt it.
.
Girl #3: Still intersted; haven't met her.
.
I just placed 2 more ads.
If I get 3 girls, hopefully I'll always have one of the 3 who shows up, eh?
And if all 3 prove to be dependable - the Alan Bradley Group is going to sound dynamite.

I used to get pissed off at the people who talk big, and then make excuses. Now I don't even care anymore.
Now I'm at the place where I can have fun with it.
:)
Oh, btw - here's the latest.
.
Girl #3 I sent her an email (and some lyrics) on 2-24-10.
Today is 2-26-10.
She hasn't replied, yet.
. . . not even just to verify that she got the lyrics.
This'll be the 2nd time she waited at least 2 days to reply.
Guess she doesn't want the position very badly, eh?
That's alright . . .
. . . not wasting any more time on someone who drags their feet.
I emailed her again, and politely asked if she actually wants to do it.
.
Then, without waiting for a response (another day or 2?), I moved her emails into my "Inactive folder," . . .
. . . along with 112 other people, from over the last few years.
About 65% of them were excuse-makers and time-wasters.
And maybe 35% of those were valid: different styles of music, no time, too far . . .
S'ok.
Are we having fun yet?
:)

ALan, my sister lives in Connecticut and is a fine singer. She's in her late fifties and has sung in a few bands and did a solo gig many years ago in coffee houses. Not sure how long she's going to be living there however. Bad economy might force her and her husband to move out of Connecticut. If you want me to have her contact you let me know...

Thanks, Bob.
These are all original songs, and kinda complicated to learn - I'm looking for someone who's gonna be around a bit.
If she's interested - or if any other girls in CT are interested, - here's a link to the ad . . .
.
http://connecticut.backpage.com/Musicia ... st/3131583
.
I'll even take on a beginner, if they can sing and will stick with the band a bit . . .
But I'm not losing any sleep while I'm waiting, either . . . 'cause I'm still writing songs and keeping busy, otherwise . . .

Got another response from the ads:
Girl #4
Sent me an email answering every question I could think to ask - before I had to ask: Age, History, experience, music preferences, goals, phone # . . .
Seems good: stay tuned.
.
Actually - this is the 5th girl to answer the ad - the 1st girl I discounted right off the bat, because she was from out of state.

SCARY!!

Sometimes I'd like to add some keys to our group. Then I think of adding yet another personality and a sixth person to have to balance schedules with, and I run screaming into the night.

AH AH AH AH AH

I hear ya.
No big deal, though . . .
Often the problem isn't the situation, but how we react to it.
I'm learning to not get emotional about potential new members - or schedulin, or what-not.
It'll happen - or not - regardless if I'm all emotional, eh?
:)
.
So, ok, here's the latest results (as of midnight, 3-2-2010) from my ad posted in search of female vocalists.
.
Girl #1 lives too far - another state.
Girl #2 is sick
Girl #3 came to rehearsal is has been accepted (2 more openings, yet)
Girl #4 says she’s too busy at work
Girl #5 saw my Myspace page, said she’s not in my league. I re-invited her, says she’ll come.
Girl #6 . . . just got an email from her. Experience performing, sings, plays guitar. Stay tuned.
