See, I coulda said everything he did in a few sentences.

"We're in a clusterflook. Fixing it is next to impossible, cuz our gov't is set up to be as inefficient as possible. Best thing you ppl can do is ride it out & hope for the best, but I can't guarantee it."

Prune pork and programs instead.

If you or I have budget problems, we have to CUT SPENDING. We don't "raise taxes" - our incomes are FIXED.

Our government needs to operate like its income is fixed too. CUT SPENDING.

There are undoubtedly programs funded by our government that could be cut and save money...

Well CF if you use that analogy ... The US has been cutting taxes for a lot of years ... so that would kinda be like you working for way less money every year and making up the difference by borrowing money. This just doesn't work ... whether your a country or a person

It's nice to pay less tax ... I agree ... but you can't have it both ways ... there is no free ride (reduced taxes) someone has to pay for it ... cause the rich ppl and corps sure ain't. You can only cut back on programs so much .. otherwise the country starts to fall apart.

What I came away from the speech ... beside the usual stuff, jobs banking etc, was that he chalenged the GOP and Dem's to think of the country first and not what's in it for them or how much money they can get out of the lobbiest. He also chalenged them to come up with solutions to the problems that face the country, instead of just voting NO ...

I think this would go along way to help the US through these troubled waters. ... but I fear that Kramerguy may be right ... it may have to crash and burn before it changes.

I didn't say cut taxes...

I said CUT SPENDING.

At its simplest, the federal budget is no different than your checkbook. Taxes = income.

So, you look at your bills this month, you look at what you make for income, and you realize you're in the red. You OWE money to credit card companies and your mortgage. What do you do? Well, you can try to make more money (raise taxes), but that's hard. Or you can look at your budget and figure out where you can CUT SPENDING.

That cable bill you're paying for with all the HBO and SHOWTIME channels? Not necessary. That Netflix account? Not necessary. The $5 you pay for your ESPN Insider account? Not necessary. The 5 magazine subscriptions that lay piled up on the kitchen counter? Not necessary. The extra expense of eating out at restaurants too often? Not necessary.

When we, as individuals, have a budget crises, the only responsible thing to do is CUT SPENDING.

Our government needs to do the same. I'm not talking about cutting taxes. Leave the f*cking taxes alone. CUT SPENDING. Find places in the budget where you can prune.

PUT EVERY SINGLE FEDERAL PROGRAM ON ALERT. Under review - if that program isn't achieving it's goals, CUT IT. Why spend money on stuff that doesn't work? Cut the WASTE and the PORK. CUT SPENDING.

Our taxes that we pay right now would be enough if we'd just CUT SPENDING.

For you conservative Republican types this equates to SMALLER GOVERNMENT. One of your mantras.

Yes, there are a few of us Democrat/Libertarian types out there who actually have a fiscally responsible brain in our heads and we'd prefer to champion political candidates that put fiscal responsibility FIRST.

I guess what I was trying to get at, CF, is the hole is so big & deep now, cuts alone won't do it. Taxes will have to be raised .. my hope is the it will be on the rich and big corp's instead of the middle class. But that seams to be a sacred cow, that even the middle class has bought into ....

There something out of balance when the average joe pays more (in percenage of earnings) than the rich & big corp's do. Even Warren Buffet sez he pays too little tax ... why the middle class bought into this richmans propaganda scheme .. I'll never know ... it like a race to the bottom ... with the middle class paying all the bills. ... and I'm not talk about raising taxes on small business either .. I lump them in with middle class.

The hole was pretty big when Clinton took office too. There was a surplus when he left.

I know the *numbers* are big. But it's all relative. If we operate with a balanced budget and have a surplus each year, we can pay down our debt. I don't care WHEN we become debt-free, just that the process is going on and we're on our way to recovery.

Not me, Chippy. I'm self-unemployed, I guess.

Jace is pretty damned sick today, so I'm watching him while Ian works, instead of having the day care place call me to come & get him. He's really been down for about three days, now. I have managed to get him up enough to watch some tv, but even that was a trial by fire.

So I've had lots of time to look o/l at all of those really weird vids I've been posting today, & talk polit-rockets.

Progressive Income tax,,, After woodrow wilson had a new income tax passed, the wealthy,1% were taxed at a max rate of 6% , fed tax collected, was over 1 BILLION per year. After 4 years ,the tax rate ws increased,[BROKEN PROMISE].......to 14 %............... Tax revenues dropped to153 million. Taxes were also increased on the middle and lower class,, those revenues also declined, small business owners gave up. I beleive there was a depression that followed shortly after.
I am not exagerating this history,,,
Every business understands this basic rule, If you sell a widget for $50 and you average 100 per year=$50,000. But if you can bring the price down to $5 dollars a widget and sell a million of them,,,you just made a bunch more money and you were able to share your product with many more people.

The progressive thinking we are dealing with now ,,,lets raise taxes and then we the govt can buy widgets for everyone,,,YEAH

Chippy you are excused.

Problem is the goverment isn't selling widgets ... and there's a fixed number of people and corporations that can be taxed and they're all being taxed and a lot of them are not doing well ... so how are you going to cut spending when you have 2 wars going on as well as the rest of the obligations, ie, servicing the debt and keep the country running and so-on

You make it sound so easy ... it not.

Chippy, I do love music, I am waiting for your new songs.. Even Lain's last song just blew me away. But right now I just want our govt to stop trying take away ,and waste it and redistribute it. When CANSINGANDPLAY at24 years of age , is wondering where his money has gone, when the stock market is in the beggining of a major downturn, [peoples 401Ks are getting killed]
No Phil, I don't want to be a polit,,,,,I am a rotten liar.
I just want you to see that there may be a different reason why stuff happens.
Sorry if you think I am wrong , but ,now, I feel as though I am protecting the wealth that I have worked for. My home, my childrens education, my ten year old personal cars,my business[JOB],,,,the list of blessings can be long when you start to count them.
Right now I feel our govt is violating all the founding principles ,[not just the federal].
I am not a conservative, republican, democrat ,liberal,or any other thing you you want to call me . I am just someone that beleives that our Constitution was one of the most wonderful man made documents ever created.
sh*t ,,,gotta go ,,, wife needs attention.
