I was at a loss for why Sans wrote this, so I re-read the original post. I realized that I misread it, and somehow interpreted that Mike was WAITING to sell it to the guy THE NEXT DAY to give the listing more time (one day more).
Oops.
Now I realize, that he "wanted" to give the listing more time, but that by selling it to the $40 dollar guy, he was NOT giving the listing more time.
So, in light of that...
Yes Mike, you made a moral mistake in my judgement, because it sounds like you absolutely committed to the price, without any wiggle room.
In the future, to avoid this circumstance, simply tell the potential purchaser:
"I really don't want to sell it for that price, so fair warning, if anyone else gives me the full price before you can pick it up, then it's theirs. If not, then you can have it at that price. First come first serve."
There is always the possibility that the $40 dollar dude would change his mind as well, who knows? But that is beside the point. When
YOU give your word to something, you really should do your best to honor it.
As I would have told my own kids...
"You just sold your character for $10 bucks."
No offense brother. I just wish for ALL PEOPLE to become BETTER people. Myself included.
