This guy is on to something. Seriously.

more of that "subjectivity" vs. "objectivity" that you like to toss off, ted. as i see it.....YOU'RE the one lacking the "comprehension" of points being made to you.

That clip from Andy was only to show you guys what fast really is. I told you that his body of work is much wider, but you choose not read that part apparently, and hated on him for playing fast in one song.

if you honestly believe that....that's more lack of comprehension (or as you like to say "lack of intellectual honesty) on your part.

ted. i don't "hate on him". trust me....i got that you explained he plays others styles. so what? i simply commented on the fact that the style of playing demonstrated in that video does nothing for me.....sweep picking pentatonic scales up and down the neck at breakneck speed w overcompressed asstone? thanks i'll pass.

yes....we all got that you posted it as an example of "fast playing". GOTTIT. 8)

More evidence you simply want to argue and can not be honest about the comparisons you started with this ridiculous assertion.

BWAHAHAHAHA! now, that's EXACTLY what this whole thread was missing...HUMOR!!!! good one bruh!

and like everyone, you're entitled to your opinion and your musical tastes.... but really, who gives a rat's a$$ about your OPINIONS on whose music you deem "more interesting" or "better"????

oooooh, someone hired so and so to play on their album!.....what does that prove????

When you guys get good enough and successful enough to beat him you will. Me thinks NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!

sorry. it's not a contest or a competition, jeff.

i guess you see it that way, but that's not why i play music.....or how i look at it. "beating someone".
nobody "beats" out anyone else. we do what we do, and we get out of it what we get out of it. that's different for everybody.

and that's EXACTLY why i brought up the point earlier.... it all depends on how you define "success".

my goal was never to travel the world playing music or "making it". (whatever that means).

my only (musical) goal was simply to have a life filled with music. and that's exactly what i have. and i get to sleep in my bed every night and enjoy my wife's company, our home, and our family that's close by.

that might not be YOUR definition of "success"....but it is mine. but that doesn't make me the winner of anything 'cos it's not a contest. :D

but at least better than that boring Who.

you must have never listened to Quadrophenia much then.." Love Reign O'er Me" still puts chills down my spine it is so magnificent and "unnerving" sheer musical harmonic genius..especially the lead guitar parts, the double stops and all :)

but again, the Live Aid performance was not spectacular, but Love Reign O'er Me off Quadrophenia is stellar, a go to tune.. just about as good as Aja

Mark my point is that Joseph was running down an artist like Ted whom tours the world and works with the best musicians in the world. I don't know if you have met him or heard his music? I have several of his albums. His music and album production is at the top of my favorite listening music. It is so perfectly written, produced, performed, and recorded it blows my mind. I was classically trained from a very young age, I love Jazz, Blues, R&B, I just choose not to be a snob when listening, or judging someone's hard labored and loved music. With all due respect most of the Jazzers I have known are snobs. Other genres of music are beneath them! True one's choice in music is subjective but when I hear someone running down Jimmy Page or Ted whom have done more musically than ALL of us put together it tells me that person is a loudmouth music SNOB AND A LEGEND IN THEIR OWN MIND! It also tells me they don't like their music because of their political views and that is sad to me.
There are a lot of famous musicians whom political views I disagree that doesn't have any affect on how much I enjoy their music.

i want to weigh in on this "snobbery issue".

and though i don't want to....i'm gonna pull rank and throw my weight around. not because i'm King Snob but because I regularly play a lot of different types of music....probably more so than anyone currently on this forum. and no, i don't mean at home or just recording different styles and genres....many of us play different genres of music.

what i mean is that i play these different genres w others all the time.

for a really long time i've been actively playing in as many as five groups at a time. that usually covers a spectrum ranging from R&R, Country, Retro Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, and Blues.

and my experience BEING AROUND musicians from those different musical camps....is that you'll find just as many snobs in any one of them...not just jazz!

there are always musicians who think THEIR music trumps the rest, and so they look down on anyone playing something different. they're usually pretty easy to recognize by the large chips on their shoulder! :)

Jeff, I've no doubt you've been around jazz snobs. i have as well. and i've been around just as many classical snobs, bluegrass snobs (grassholes we call 'em), etc, etc.
