Yeah, I'm kidding. And due to the context of the thread, I knew everyone was joking. I just had to say that cuz, I was in an abusive relationship many moons ago. I learned the origin of "rule of thumb" in a workshop that I had attended and I have avoided saying "ROT" since the workshop. That doesn't mean that I didn't say it...I just avoid saying it.

It allowed a man to keep his wench in check without causing serious injury.

Not that I am condoning said action mind you. But that was the intent of the law.

It really works on walnut trees, though. You should beat any nut or fruit tree with a stout stick early in the spring, when the sap is 1st starting to flow. Beating on the bark, but not breaking it, will increase the fluids in the tree, thus increasing production...
