You've GOT to see the STUNNING performance of Susan Boyle on Britain's version on American Idol. Simon Cowl and the other panelists, as well as the audience were truly amazed and stunned by this unassuming, middle-aged woman. It brought tears to my eyes. FINALLY a chance for true talent to be fully appreciated enencumbered by a music video. Just go on Youtube and search fo Susan Boyle. There's already been 20 million views of this HISTORIC moment.

Heard her this morning.
Yup stunning voice, I like that play too and have seen it both here and over there.

She was spot on. Much luck to her.

She is pretty hard on the eyes, but really good for the ears, for sure.

I found it very interesting how shallow the audience started to be before she used those amazing pipes. They tittered & giggled & were on the verge of being rather rude.

This proves that truly developed talent RULES! I pretty much doubt that she'll be anyone's "idol," though, & that really IS a shame, because there's much in her to admire.

I disagree about her not being anybody's idol. This performance was so stunning, the reaction of the judges and audience was so amazing, she can't help but be a huge star in the music world. When I said HISTORIC I meant it. It's about time our judgement of musical talent is based entirely on TALENT and NOT on looks. Whether she wins the competition or not is irrelevant. We've got this magical moment that gives me some hope that people may not be so superficial after all...

Yes I saw that last week there was one other singer that did the same thing last year on that same show I don't remember his name but he was an Opera singer under the same circumstances as Susan Boyle. It is sad that true talent gets pushed to the side after a certain age and the record companies take some youngster that can barely sing slap some lipstick on her dress her up like a hoochie mama and she becomes a superstar while in a years time no one will even remember Susan Boyle that just pisses me off. But at least Susan Boyle got her overdue respect from the same people that slap the lipstick on the other scenario I mentioned.
Okay here I go with the tired old saying "in my day we didn't care how you looked as long as you were good" :x

The reaction this is getting is SO overwhelming that I believe it may represent a real breakthrough. Remember the days before music videos? I remember driving down a highway listening to the radio and hearing Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time. I never heard of Queen before. I pulled over to the side of the road and listened in disbelief. I then drove right over to a music store and bought the album. That's the kind of reaction this woman had on this show. I heard a story years ago of a country fan who went to a Charlie Pride concert and didn't know he was black having never seen a picture of him before. He heard him just a few times on the radio. Here's this black guy walking out on stage and he's thinking who the hell is this guy? Being prejudiced he was about to walk out and then Charlie starts singing and he realizes that he's listening to the world's greatest country singer of all time. That's the kind of reaction we all have to have. Who cares what somebody looks like. Susan Boyle is now one of my biggest heroes in music. Did you see the look on Simon Cowl's face? Priceless...

Yeah,J, someone sent me the you tube link to that guy. Seems like he was a telephone repairman or something like that. He was a fantastic singer, but didn't have the looks. Same reaction as the Susan Boyle thing. I've never been able to watch a whole episode of any of the Idol shows because Simon is a a$$hole. :x :x :x

I agree Ratsass, I have alway's said if Simon Cowell know's so much about singing lets hear him sing. I mean whats good for the goose is good for the gander right! Usually though people that can dish it out like that can't take it. I would love to see some other asshole critisize Simons singing like he does everyone else. I have always said you don't have to be a perfect singer to give a good performance, I believe all musicians should strive to be the best they can be but that doesn't mean you have to be the best there is. There is just something that good musicians have that when they perform you can see right into their soul whether they are Antonio Pavorati, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Steve Perry, Janis Joplin or Neil Scon. :)

I find myself in the incredible position of defending the Simon. He is NOT a singer. He is a producer. As such, he has the background to critique acts.

More often than not, I find myself in complete agreement with his opinions, &, at times, I find that mine are even more harsh, or possibly of a higher standard even than his. He may not be the nicest man around, but he is not supposed to be. As a judge, his job is to be judgemental, & often, he also includes suggestions to make things better. When something is bad, he says so. When it's great, he shows his appreciation.

What more could you expect from him?

I've never watched that show at all, well I did once since its obviously about music but I cannot stand the guy music background or not. He was chosen for looks and his English voice just like the growing number of adds on TV these days.

I'd rather see someone with clout and from the cutting edge of older music frankly.

Being obnoxious seems to be growing and popular trend.
I find that worrying because it sends the wrong signals.

Just my Penny Farthing. :D

to produce something worth listening to philby?! as for the competition there is a 7 year old girl in the mix too but at 7 how much control and depth is there going to be in your voice, hope she gets to sing for the queen and the people who have REAL talent get mildly successful careers, I know simon is working on setting susan up after that preformance

The entire thing about Idol is that it is an act. Nobody is an authority on music. What somebody likes or dislikes is entirely subjective. Idol has little to do with pure talent and everything to do with image. I think Susan Boyle was so astonishing that even Simon couldn't put on an act about it. This was a great moment on a show that has had precious little redeeming value, at least for me anyways. Maybe now more people will actually LISTEN to somebody without PREJUDICE. One can only hope...

Philby maybe you could judge Simons singing, besides that I have never heard of Simon Cowell untill american Idol what the hell did he produce anyway I am curious, the black Judge I can't remember his name but he played with Journey and he can sing to and Paula Abdoul could sing to. This is just my opinion.

Great post Bob. I entirely agree. I'm one of those people that will not talk through a movie, song or anything like that. Take it in and make what you want from it I guess?

What a fabulous singer and from a standpoint of what counts, talent. She will be in something very soon. Personally I loved her attitude, she sang live on TV here this morning. What a voice and composure.

I feel rather silly now with my efforts in creating though I've learned of course. There are people out there with masses of talent so I guess the story here is.

Don't brag. Just like everything else in life there is always someone better that you.

Kudos to the woman. I wonder how she was found? Not the type to go bulling herself up but its wonderful, she's a true gem.

This is getting better and BIGGER. CNN did a news story about her and she's going on Larry King live tonight. This is something I've been hoping for for YEARS. Now can we finally PAY ATTENTION to somebody other than Britney Spears? Later...
